2 Stage Trigger Question

Hey folks - my new AR (DPMS Mark 12) comes with a 2 stage trigger - not sure what make. I was expecting the trigger feel to be something like my Glock - there’s a little bit of play at first but you finally hit a point where there is some definate resistance. Squeezing further goes bang.

I had expected the same with the 2 stage trigger on the AR but that’s not what I am experiencing. I’m feeling no resistance or contact whatsoever - it just fires all of a sudden (kinda dangerous IMO). I’ve even opened the upper and watched the action as I dry fire. I can watch the contact with the hammer being made but I don’t feel a thing. In fact there again, the hammer just seems to release at some point but I can’t feel when it is about to happen.

Is this normal? I have 700 rnds with it right now. Will the action change as the trigger gets worked more?

Doesn’t sound right. There should be a very light initial pull before reaching a point of resistance, then a clean crisp break.

have one of these in there?

sounds like a single stage trigger… do you know the difference (by looking)?

I’m beginning to agree with you about the single stage. I’ve been working the trigger expecting the action of a 2 stage but there is definately no real contact that I can feel. It’s actually a pretty nice feel for a single stage but that’s not what it was supposed to be.

bkb0000 - no I couldn’t tell the difference by looking.

Guess I’ll be calling the dealer on Monday. Is there any other details I can check for to determine whether it is a single or double stage?

Just look at the hammer. Most 2 stage triggers share a similar design like this http://www.quarterbore.com/kac/kac2stage.html

Notice on the hammer the piece that interacts with the trigger. Kinda looks like an upside down tree with a “hook” on either side.

On a standard GI hammer there is only one, and looks like this http://www.del-ton.com/v/vspfiles/photos/LP1018-2T.jpg

Further here is the DPMS two stage trigger: http://www.dpmsinc.com/store/products/?prod=5564

OK - Thanks to the pic from Belmont31R and a couple others I found it is definately a single stage trigger. What a RIP OFF!. The DPMS M12 is supposed to have a dual stage.

I can’t imagine DPMS hosing up something like that. Do you suppose the dealer could have pulled a switcheroo? Anyone heard of this before?

contact DPMS… even the best make mistakes sometimes.
