A pair of robbers were reportedly shot by their victim at a Kansas City, Kansas car wash.

Police say that a pair of robbers approached a man at the car wash on the 2700 block of Merriam Lane just before 8 AM, and tried to rob the man of his wallet and vehicle. The man reportedly drew his self defense gun and fired, striking both robbers and ending the attack. One robber suffered life-threatening injuries and was unable to flee, while the other robber managed to run to a get-away car, which was driven by an accomplice, according to police. The robber victim was reportedly unharmed, and at least two of the three robbery suspects are already in custody.

When law abiding citizens are armed, and therefore able to defend themselves, this is how robberies can end – with the victims unharmed, and the suspect in custody. Rather than being harmed for not having enough money, or just because the robbers felt like hurting him, this man went home uninjured. It is also quite possible that by defending himself, this man saved many future robbery victims from the terror of being robbed and carjacked by violent criminals.

“People want to take out the monster brush and paint all over him, but he was a good kid,” family friend Don Caldwell said.

Caldwell said Deangelo Graham was a good kid who made a poor decision that cost him his life. His family said they hope people will remember more than his final act.

“A child made a mistake,” Caldwell said. “He did something wrong that cost him his life.”

On Friday morning Graham and a friend tried to rob a man at a Kansas City, Kan., car wash. Graham and his friend had guns, but so did the intended victim, who shot them both before either teen could fire a single shot.

“You take someone’s life, you feel that you don’t just go to sleep,” Caldwell said. “He’s going through something as well.”

Graham’s family said they don’t blame the man for defending himself. They also said they don’t blame Graham’s friend, who was by his side.

“He’s been taught right from wrong,” Caldwell said. “It was his decision, as wrong as it may be.”

Graham’s family said he moved back to the area less than a month ago. He had moved out of state with relatives to try and escape some of the violence in his neighborhood. During his semester away, his family said he made the honor roll. However, Graham told his family he was homesick and moved back.

Now that Graham is gone and his family hopes the end of his life is not all he is remembered for.

“Please don’t judge,” Caldwell said. “We all make mistakes.”

Twice early Friday morning in Kansas City, Kan., victims turned the tables on would-be robbers.

In both cases, the robberies were thwarted and the victims were not injured.

One suspect suffered critical wounds in one of the incidents, at a car wash at 2780 Merriam Lane.

Two men with weapons approached a man who was washing his car and demanded his wallet and car keys. Instead, the man pulled his weapon and fired, striking both suspects.

In the other incident, a convenience store clerk working in a store on the 5900 block of Leavenworth Road was in a back room when a man entered armed with a rifle.

The clerk came out of the room, spotted the man with the rifle and a shot was fired. The culprit was wounded and fled the store.

KMBC’s Peggy Breit reported that at Show Me Shooters in Claycomo, people can buy guns, practice their shooting at the attached range, or take classes on how to get a concealed carry permit in either Missouri or Kansas.

It is not cheap to get a concealed weapons permit. After adding in classes and application costs, the total price tag runs more than several hundred dollars.

However, the number of people applying for concealed carry permits continues to rise. Nearly 22,000 Kansas have been issued concealed carry permits since the state made it law in 2006.

In Missouri, concealed carry became law in 2005. In Jackson County alone, more than 7,500 have gotten their permits.

Criminal thugs prey on the weak, its nice to see that people are starting to stand their ground and refuse to be victims.

Hey Irish, do you think I can watch the news this evening and hear them singing praises to the lawful and armed victims that were able to have a fighting chance of staying alive by defending themselves against the armed criminals and saying how much better of a survival chance the citizens would have if they were armed with even minimal training? I doubt it, but one can always hope!

I know… I just bought a 950SF condo, second floor, about a 40sf deck, no property, and 1 parking spot. Roghly $3000 in taxes a year lol

Awesome, right?

But its hard to leave family, friends and a good job. Plus, as an Architect, its hard to find good work outside of the New York, Philly, San Fran, and Chicago areas.

Same here. At least they admit the kid was responsible for his actions. That’s a lot more than you usually get from some dead dirtbags family.
