1st custom build. 90% done

I decided to take on my first custom build a few months ago. Even though I have been shooting ARs for years and felt pretty confident, I must admit I was a little hesitant. Everything went extremely well right up to the point when I ordered my barrel. I went for a 14.5" from Legion firearms. That was 2/4/13 still no barrel , hence the 90% complete So anyway here’s what I got so far-

Upper
Seekins billet upper
Midwest industries Gen 2 SS 12" handguard
Rainier arms raptor ambi charging handle
Rainier arms nickel boron BCG
MOA adjustable gas block
Surefire muzzle break
(Eventually) Legion Firearms Hex fluted 14.5" FDE Cerakoted barrel

Lower
Seekins billet (no logo) lower
Magpul UBR stock
JP Enterprises silent capture spring
Geissele SSA-E trigger
BAD ambi safety FDE
Magpul MAID grip FDE
KNS Gen ST non rotating pins FDE
NORGON ambi catch mag release

Optics/sights
Diamond head BUIS FDE
Aimpoint H1 with FDE cover

Feel free to take this the wrong way…

but what were you trying to accomplish with that build? Why does your part selection match what you were trying to do with it?

I see things on there which in my mind are pretty resoundingly contraindicated (from a value perspective) - a UBR probably doesn’t belong on a rifle which uses an aimpoint as the optic - That’s an extra pound and $150 on a stock system that doesn’t really shine without a magnified optic, and really only makes sense balancing out heavier barrels.
Whatever trigger pin device you have there is probably not recommended by Geissele - just run those pins, any decent lower will retain them. The SSA-E is a fantastic trigger, and Seekins makes fairly precise stuff (really any worthwhile machine shop should be able to hold those tolerances well enough) for the trigger pin holes.

The upper looks pretty squared away - if you’re not in a ban state where you’ll have to pin a brake to the barrel anyway, just run a 16" Barrel. If you want to make it a lighter rifle (and compliment the Aimpoint - probably a stock change) run a DD Midlength Lightweight Barrel (or BCM LW Barrel). If you want the possibility of precision, then the slightly heavier Centurion CHF Lighter barrels are great - the upcoming BCM Intermediate contour units will work, and there’s always the Government profile options from both BCM and DD. I suspect these are all cheaper than the Legion unit, and can get you shooting this rifle sooner. If you run a more precision oriented barrel (which are heavier), then the UBR will make more sense, but then the Aimpoint isn’t the ideal optic (not that it’s bad in any way, just that a 1MOA capable optic isn’t best served by a reflex sight).

I see your point to some degree. The UBR is a stock that I had left over from a previous rifle so for now it is going to be used on this. I am waiting to free up some funds with the intent on using it for a Faxon ARAK. Eventually it will go there and a new one will be purchased for this build. But for right now that’s the way it’s going to be.

The custom build area is a place to show off/discuss and ask questions and get feedback about your completed custom build (this means a completed AR that is functional and already completed). If you are going to post pictures of your build, please post a complete picture not just your parts, partial lowers, etc…
