1st Build - Opinions? - Updated!

This is my first AR-15 build, already have the lower and a few of the lower parts.

Build List:
Stripper Noveske N4 Lower - H series
G & R Tactical LPK
LMT ambi selector
LMT Buffer Tube
Tactical Springs buffer spring
Spikes ST-T2 buffer
Magpul MOE grip
Magpul Trigger guard
Magpul ASAP end plate
Magpul BAD lever
Magpul CTR stock
Geissele SSA trigger

Noveske N4 Recce 16" - Midlength
BCM gunfighter
LMT Enhanced BCG
Vortex flash hider
Troy rear BUIS
Daniel Defense 9" Omega

I’m sorta stuck on the trigger unsure of how good the stock trigger is in the LPK, so considering the Geissele. Anyone with the experience with the Geissele have any opinions? I’m used to the trigger on our issued weapons so just throwing that out there.

Any other suggestions?

So far:

Geez louisse! You sure this is your first build?? Looks like you have everything anyone could possibly want on your list…
Id go with a lighter buffer to go with your TS spring or maybe even the M16A5 kit from Vltor and a battle comp instead of the Vortex. Just my opinion based on my personal preferences. Awesome specs either way.
As for your trigger, No personal experience with Geissele but have heard nothing but praises from those who have them. If youre used to the standard GI trigger though, and have had no problems with it, then I think a good quality set would suffice. Again, just my 2 cents.

LMT enhanced carrier was designed for the carbine gas system not a mid length gas system you could run into a problem using it on a midlength.
And the heavy buffer may or may not cause you problems with with the midlength gas system and weak ammo most guys just use the carbine buffer or an H-buffer.

No its definitely a first build I’m just all about doing it right the first time. Been doing some research for a bit. I got the standard trigger initially with my LPK so I’ll play with that for awhile already irritating the wife with spending so maybe ill wait on the trigger a bit heh

Thomas M-4, thanks for the info i was exactly unsure of how much of a difference the mid length made as i don’t have any experience with that gas system. I more or less was looking at the enhanced carrier for the dual extractor on the bolt so i guess I’ll drop the carrier and just order the bolt considering the upper’s going to come with a F/A carrier anyways.

For the buffer I’m sure ill be using a variety of ammo, so maybe I’ll get a spikes buffer and normal H buffer and see how they both work out considering buffers are relatively in-expensive.

More or less going for the most reliable DI set-up that can be had.

Great build but I would change one thing. I would skip the LMT enhanced BCG. One of the great advantages of the M4 system is parts interchangeability and I would not want to depart from that principle. What if you are somewhere and happen to need a new extractor? Perhaps it is less likely with the LMT enhanced BCG, but still.

The above is IMO only.

That is a good point, well then does the enhanced bolt at least provide more reliable extraction? Or is it overkill with the 2 springs. Another item without any experience behind but looked solid to me.

Hi Joshua

The dual extractor spring actually do not provide more extractor tension they use longer springs which reduce K value in other words longer extractor spring life. Bill Alexander [ a well respected firearms engineer] posted a very good explanation of the LMT enhanced BCG
his post is number #12 on the linky https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=3379
I think his post should be required reading for people considering the LMT enhanced BCG .
I use the LMT enhanced BCG in my 14.5’’ LMT I have 3000+ rounds so far and it has run great so far with brass or steel case ammo.
Understand the enhanced bcg original design was to provide longer service life.

I do not know if the enhanced carrier will work on a middy. LMT says it is only for 14.5" and longer barrels but they don’t make a middy.

Alright thanks that’s exactly what i was looking for, I appreciate it.

Ya I’m not going to get the carrier, but I think maybe I’ll try the bolt out. Glad I posted or would have wasted almost $300 for something on the wrong gas system.

The upper is a N4 Light Reece Basic? It comes with a very nice BCG and charging handle.

Rather than add the Omega rail later (as I did), see if they will build it with the VTAC Extreme rail. Or go with the VTAC/Noveske version of the Light Reece:
http://noveskerifleworks.com/cgi-bin/imcart/display.cgi?item_id=lr-vtac&cat=67&page=1&search=&since=&status=

I spent quite a bit of time looking at rails and the main thing I was looking for was ability to free float and utilize the M16 style front sight, as its less parts to worry about. So that’s where I came up with the DD omega. Price is working in my favor as well I’ll be picking up the upper and rails for $1,050 so a little cheaper than picking the upper up with a rail system from the start.

The Geissele triggers rock. I’ve just installed the SSAs in two of my rifles and I’m a huge fan so say the least.

The remaining list of items looks good, however, I’m not a fan of using heavy buffers in middys since I sometime shoot “weak” ammo. See this thread.

Thanks for the link lot of stuff on here just kinda hard to track some of it down at times

Well got the lower completed, sticking with the stock trigger for now. Just have to make final decision on upper.

Looks great so far! Don’t forget to stake that castle nut though.

Ya i need to get that done its not tightened down all the way yet the wrench i have wouldn’t fit over the endplate.

After my son being born, moving out of Hawaii was finally able to mostly finish everything up, but damn kids are expensive lol. Changed my mind quite a bit so…
