Is it normal for there to be about a 1mm gap between the magazine catch and the lower receiver cutout for the magazine catch? I am talking length-wise toward the front of the receiver cutout. Or is it possible the mag catch or receiver are out of spec? The assembly seems to function as it should with a mag inserted, btw.

I think I know what your describing, and no there shouldnt, but that being said. If it works it works. Most likely the lower is a little out of spec, but that happens from time to time. Especially with lesser quality brands.
A pic and description of the lower would be nice.
PS: With the mag installed pull any and everyway possible to see if the mag comes loose. If it does I wouldn’t use that for nothing but a plinker

After testing it the mag wouldn’t budge in any direction without depressing the button. So at least it works.
I will post some pictures when I learn how. The lower is a Noveske Gen 2 and the mag catch along with the other lower parts, except the trigger and selector, are DPMS. I now regret buying DPMS after searching around and reading about bolt catches and buffer detents breaking.
Is it true the lower parts offered at Specialized Armament are Colt? I didn’t see it specified anywhere. Too bad I already installed the bolt catch, now I would have to risk gouging it again to remove and reinstall with Colt.

at this stage of the game we can’t get too picky. I would keep the DPMS bolt catch/Mag detent and whatever else you got in there while you search for higher quality parts, and shoot until it breaks or you feel its time.
As for who makes what. I have no idea. I’ve no desire to go nuts researching that. There are people here who can help though.
