Dan Wesson Valor or MC Operator?
Which package would i get more out of?
I am looking for a very accurate 1911 that will function flawlessly.
I plan on running this bad boy hard.
With the MC operator i get a rail…which i like but i think it’s not a must have for me
If i go Valor … do i get Bob tail… what are the benefits of this?
Also, from a price perspective the Valor is about 300$ more.
The Springfield is a great gun I have had several of their 1911s over the years, and I have yet to get a bad one. I have always felt that the Operators were some of the best “Bang for you buck” 1911s out there. Especially if you can pick up a clean used one.
The newest one I own is around 5 years old, so I can’t speak to the QC of current production gun. I have heard rumors that they were having some issues with their frames? Maybe someone can clear that up for me, after all I have just heard rumors no hands on problems.
As for the CD guns. I have never owned one, but I have shot a few here and there. The F&F seems very good. The ones I shot have shot flawlessly. That is as much as I can say on them. The guys I know running them seem to speak highly of them, but I see a lot more SA Operators and Kimber Warriors out there then CDs. So take that for what it is worth.
In the end I have to throw my vote to the SA or a Kimber Warrior, I have had and ran both very hard with little or no problems.
Hopefully someone can give you a better hands on opinion.
MC Operator
I would take the Springer if those were my choices. The Valor is a nice gun but I’m partial to Springer and anything that starts with MC. I have one myself and it has been flawless and very accurate. After owning the pistol awhile I had the front strap checkered and a S&A magwell fitted and blended loosing the ILS crap. I was not very fond of the color scheme so I had everything coated black. It wouldn’t have been bad if all the frame parts were green but a black ambi safety, slide stop and mag release didn’t work for me.
The MC Operator is always on the short list for a reason.
With the addition of an S&A Magwell, and at most frontstrap/undercut and trigger work, it’s an amazing pistol. It’s great stock.
Some used ones come with FLGRs, but that’s a simple fix.
I vote Valor, best fit and finish for the money with quality components

I certainly wouldn’t try to talk you out of a Dan Wesson though…

I vote a 2010 or 2009 Valor if you can find one at a decent price…this is a really nice 1911 for the money…uses high quality parts and seem to be fit by competent gun smiths…they also lack the bill board advertisements which i like.
Dave Severns at severn customs did a review of a bunch of 1911’s shooting them at 25 yards from a ransom rest and his two valor’s did a pretty good job, both of them keeping up and one beating a les baer
The bobtail will help with concealing but try one first, they are not for everyone.
Rail- you can add one later a dawson if it becomes a necessity

i have not owned or shot a dan wesson. but i have fired and/or owned colts, kimbers, nighthawks, springfields and once i got this it was game over:
I shot Two Dan & Wesson guns yesterday. One Razorback in 10mm and one in 45acp. They did not impress me, with function or Fit n Finish. Slide to frame fit was a little sloppy IMHO.
MC Operator, IMHO
Of the two, I’d get the MC Operator, but I’d get a TRP over the MC Operator.

I would have to go with MC Operator. They are hard to find which should say something. The history of this pistol has been excellent and Springfield customer service is a known quantity. Wesson prices have gone up a lot, you have fewer options, and I’m seeing complaints that QC may not be as good. Just less risk than with Springfield.
