1911 Feedramp and MagWell Angles

While reading the thread comparing the SA Professional with the Wilson CQB, I got interested in some of the comments on out of spec dimensions that were found by some users. My personal experience is with an MC Operator. After sending the gun back for extraction issues, and having the extractor replaced with a EGW HD extractor and FP stop, I noted that it was sometimes slow or sluggish on chambering a round. In one case, I had to push the slide forward. I thought, OK maybe there is something going on with the extractor. I looked carefully at the extractor and was surprised to find that it had all of the right radiuses you would expect with a tuned extractor. I also attempted feeding manually with the extractor removed and it was still sluggish. So, I removed the grips and put the frame in a padded vise and then took some crude measurements of the feed ramp angle using a pair of dividers, a small level and a protractor. I measured the feed ramp angle to be 34 degrees and I measured the magazine well angle to be 19 degrees, each of which are out of GI spec. I called Springfield and while they were skeptical that the feedramp angle could be so shallow, but to their credit, they provided an RMA and I sent it back. I looked it over after it came back and it appea rs that they may have filed down the knuckle in the middle of the extractor to shift it more towards the left, looking from behind the gun. So far, I have over 200 rounds through it with no problems. I admit my tools for measuring the feed ramp and mag well angle are crude, but would be interested in hearing what others have experienced as I really like this gun and want it to run.

Thanks!
