Do any of you have good load suggestions for an approximate duplication of the 308 - 175 gr Federal Gold Medal Match BTHP loads? Will be using Nosler 175 gr CC bullets, AR 10 with 20" 1 in 10 twist barrel. 175 gr GMM clocks 2615 fps in my rifle.
I saw an article that said it was IMR 4064 powder in the federal gold medal match 308 ammo for Sierra 175 gr. I want to say the powder charge was 41.75 grs if memory serves me correct. I’ll see if I can find the link.
As always double check your reloading book and work up your own load.
42.0 is a good starting point for 4064. If you’re going to shoot it in a bolt gun you can work up into the 43’s and see if you hit a nice node with more velocity.
I found the “175gr clone” loads to be much too slow. Using the OCW method, I found my loads to be most consistent at 43.0gr for thick cases like FC and BH, and 43.4gr for thinner cases.
WOW,outstanding group ! Dude your cutting yourself short,I think you can measure from center to center of the bullet hole for a true reading. Help markm, isn’t that how its done “Officially” or am I wrong ?
My son’s Colt 901 (16") produced a .438" three shot group with 44 gr. of Varget with 175 SMKs. For some reason we don’t have a chrono on that load, but it should be closer to 2600 fps at least I’m guessing. In his gun 175 Gold Medal Match was 2500 fps, so for your gun the Varget load maybe 2600?
I’ve had very good success with I4064 and those bullets as well. I’m not sitting in front of my load data so I won’t post how many grains and get it wrong. Markm seems to have forgotten more than I will ever know about reloading, so trust his advice.
