Back in 2005 according to this. 16k rounds of wolf with no cleaning, before a lug sheared off by a MisterPX.
Those are my pics. I took those around the 15K mark. Broke a bolt lug around 16K, second lug broke after another mag or two, then I terminated my experiment. Interestingly enough, the bolt release broke in that 15-16 range as well.
ETA: I don’t think I started a thread on it, just interjected into someone elses thread.
Also, I uploaded those pics in Aug 2005, so thats a timeframe for the original thread. Other 2 pics not posted are not so good, 1 has bad angle, other is blurry. Another “action” pic of said rifle gets me too much grief to post, but you may have seen it already. Guy in poncho in the rain tossing rifle down.
ETA: Going to the wayback machine here, but barrel was Bushy, BCG was M1S, think upper rec. was as well. Lower was a RRA, do not recall who’s LPK.
I lubed with miltec every 700-1000 roundsish. Although, i probably did add more whenever it was a new day at teh range.
Buffer tube broke during the SPOT testing, which was after the torture test was over. Didn’t replace any parts during the test, although I had to use charging handle to release bolt towards the end.
Keep in mind this was back in '05, when wolf 223 was $93 delivered
I think it says more about the weapons system than the ammo. More specifically, the fact that (nothing new here) sufficient lubrication is more important than very frequent cleaning.
I feel very unclean right now and have to go wash my hands for about an hour.
Geeze - a big wow if that is true. Impressive and double the comment about the importance and effectiveness of lube. Dubunks the Wolf=bad crap. One thing I have noticed with Wolf, Brownbear, and other ammo with primer sealant is that the sealant residue builds up under the extractor - surprised that didnt cause any issues.
I want to see what the Bolt and BC look like after cleaned - I picked up a cheap Colt a few years back where the prior owner never cleaned(and barely lubed it) and the bolt had pitting.
