Here’s an old build I had made that’s been waiting for some gray furniture so when I had a chance to get ahold of some of the new B5 Systems Wolf Grey stuff, I jumped on it. This same rifle used to wear a black B5 Bravo and UCWRG Grip23, so all that really changed was the color of the stock and grip:
This is one of my “beaters” so nothing special. It is getting a BAD-ASS-ST shortly (waiting in the mail).
Stats:
Upper:
PSA CHF 16" M4 profile upper with MI Gen 2 SS 15" rail (came with 12", which I sold and it paid perfectly for the 15")
Young Chrome M-16 N/M BCG (staked)
BCM Gunfighter Mod 5
Samson fixed front and rear sights (with Trijicon post in front sight)
YHM Steel Gas Block
Generic gas tube
A2 birdcage
Lower:
Seekins Forged lower with Seekins trigger guard, Seekins mag button
Colt/LMT/DD detents pins, bolt catch, mag catch and springs
Geissele SSA
Noveske STS-60 Right Hand Only (soon to be swapped for BAD-ASS-ST with short and short thin levers)
Fortis QD Endplate
Wolff SP buffer spring
BCM buffer tube
B5 Systems Wolf Grey grip and Bravo stock
Thanks, me too… I’m thinking of swapping it out for the new MI keymod 15"… No barrel nut change… 1 oz. lighter and I can use NSR rail panels on it (I think)…
This looks perfect. This barrel/handguard configuration is precisely what I plan to do with mine when I get the money. How’s the weight/balance on this setup?
Weird, I never got any notifications of any replies to this thread.
I had to go through hell and high water to find one - it’s B5 branded but is definitely a Grip 23.
Fantastic… It’s one of my best handling/balanced rifles. I’ve since switched the SSG2 to a SSK 15" and the birdcage with a Wilson Combat Accu-Tac flash hider. It’s much nicer now…
Thanks! Been waiting for someone to make decent gray furniture for a long time. I had to jump on my chance.
Thank you as well… I’ve done a bit of work to this rifle since posting it. I should take new pics and post them.
Thanks! Sweet rifle! I need to post updated pics of this one. This carbine ended up getting a 15" SSK, BAD-ASS-ST, Wilson Accu-Tac, and black buttpad. It’s so much sweeter now in my opinion.
I just wanted to add that I bought a Strike Industries charging handle on a whim, not expecting a whole lot, and it is built like a brick sh*t house. I installed it and it operates like a dream. I’m not usually keen on adding non US made parts to my rifles, but I like the low profile (super snag free), the fact that it’s rimmed, and it’s quick and easy to charge. I suggest people check them out. From everything that I’ve seen, they’re infinitely superior to mil-spec and only cost like $4 more. I’ve racked it until it felt like my fingers were going to fall off and after about ten yanks, it smoothed to a point of pure excellence. Made in Taiwan excellent quality.
Thanks! Amazingly, it’s perfectly balanced at the magazine. The NSR Keymod panel configuration was an experiment, but I like I so much I decided to keep it. It gives me the option of close in carbine grip and a thumbover with quick-indexing on both. MI hit a home-run with the SSK rail. I’m saving the SS15G2 for another build. These things are so light that and I love having a nearly completely-shrouded barrel. I’ve got a small scar on my thigh from hot carbine-barrel getting me while I was screwing around in shorts, doing mag dumps. Ever since then, I’ve tried to keep as much of the barrel covered as reasonably possible in my builds.
Edit: This rifle is indistinguishable in weight from my Sig M400 Enhanced.
