Does a mid-length gas system work well with a 14.5" lightweight barrel? Are there any advantages over a carbine gas system besides forearm length since I’ll be using the same 9" rail either way?

One of my shooting buddies has a CMMG lightweight 14.5" barrel with the mid-length gas system on his plinking AR. He has had no issues with it thus far, and I’m pretty sure his round count on this barrel is somewhere around three thousand rounds of Wolf or Brown Bear. IIRC, he is using a standard weight carbine buffer and a BCM extractor spring upgrade, minus the O-ring.

For a while I had a Sabre Defence 14.5 mid upper that was very reliable and very smooth. I liked it.
They will work great.
If not adequately lubed, and fed lower powered ammunition, short cycling can present itself, but that’s the only drawback.
More comfortable to shoot, faster time back to target, the minimum Title1 length middies are fantastic all around. My experience is with CMMG’s.
DD, BCM are the nicest looking; Sabre and CMMG offerings are great as well. Could also get a Centurion CHF and shorten that.
I’ve got a 14.5" CMMG barrel on my frankenstein build - its done nicely with minimal lubing/cleaning for over 1400rds so far.
