ok looks like I am getting a colt M4 barrel to replace the one I have ,the colt is 14.5 and I plan on buying the longer A2 flashider from BCM .
is blind pinning the only way to do this?or could I just Tack wield under the FH would that be legal also??please need some input .
who will do the Pin ?how much will is cost or is it something I could do Myself.?![]()
goto adcofirearms.com. i had my LMT 14.5" upper sent directly to them and they permanently attached a PWS FCS556 for me. They did a great job, the pin weld is visible but flush with the surface of the PWS compensator. The charge is $30 + shipping.
Carbon weld, silver solder or welding over blind pin are all legal methods of permanently attaching a FH
I have a Sabre factory 14.5" with the extended A2 style hider on it. I canāt see where they blind pinned anything ⦠is it possible they did that good of a job?
Maybe I donāt know what to look for ⦠anyone have a pic of a factory blind pin job?
When I was in Cavalryarms a year or so back we were checking out the Sabre 14.5s with extended A2. They really looked sharp. Russell at Cav said he thought that they may have silver soldered those FHs.
ADCO is a good choice for pinning.

I also have a 14 3/4" Sabre and I canāt find evidence of a welded over pin either. The FH might be silver soldered. Of course Sabre is a barrel manufacturer and simply soldering it saves a machining step but is just as effective
I recently got my upper back from ADCO. They did a great a job pinning my new flash hider on my 14.5" upper. Although I have a couple complaints about them. The first one is it took over a month to get it back. They never took the time to let me know the status of my order. I had to email them numerous times to get the status of my order. They said the person that does the pinning was ill. Again It would have been nice for them to let me know, but I had to contact them to find out, and finally I got tired of waiting, and just wanted to have my upper back, and then they finally got to pinning my flash hider. The other complaint that I have is they never sent me back the original flash hider that was on my upper. Due to my overall experience Iāll take my business elsewhereā¦
2 things with thatā¦

Iād bet that ADCO is so freakinā busy they canāt babysit every single job they have in front of them⦠updating the customer every day would cause them to get nothing done. Also shit happens⦠people get sick. It sucks waiting, but in this market thatās the way it is.

Why didnāt you take off the original FH before you sent it in?

I do understand exactly what you are saying, and donāt disagree with you, but when a vendor no matter who it is explains their policies up front to a customer such as shop time, and turn around time that should not take more than a few business days, and then exceeds that to more than a few weeks without letting the customer know I have a problem with that. If I knew it was going to take a month up front, then I would not have a problem. I do know that If I did this to my customers, my shop probably would not stay in business very long.
As to not removing the original flash hider, that was in the included price for flash hider replacement. They do indicate that if a flash hider is already pinned that It will be ruined in order to remove it. My was not pinned.
After my ordeal I was just happy enough to get my upper back, and took it as a loss.
ar15barrels.com also does this type of work.
ar15barrels was going to be my first choice. They are a lot closer to me than OHIO. I know that their prices seem to be very reasonable, but being a member here, and reading about the great reputation of ADCO, I decided to spend the extra money, and I send my upper to them, and I must say that they did a great job in pinning my upper. I would say that I beleive that nobody else could have done a better job. I was only unsatisfied with the turn-around timeā¦
my turn around experience with ADCO was much more favorable. 1 week was all it was.
I sent off my LMT 14.5" this week to ADCO although Iām not too worried about turn around time. I know he had a message on his website towards the end of December about not taking any more shop work until the beginning of the new year but that message is gone now. So Iām prepared for a wait and donāt really have a time frame in mind. Iām eager to see the quality of work and look forward to getting it back but Iām not in a hurry.
I used silver solder to attach a brake to my FAL barrel (this was back during the ban). In hindsight, I would have sent out the barrel and had it pinned. Iām an amateur at this stuff and while the process itself was easy, I must admit I worry a bit about introducing heat into the barrel to get the solder to bond to the theads and the effect it may have on the heat treatment of the barrel.
Thanks for all the he;p I will contact ADCO and see what they can do for me
i have done both blind pin and silver solder myself. i blind pinned my own LMT MRP barrel and silver soldered an friends LMT MRP barrel and i wish i would have soldered mine, it was much easier. I did the welding with a tig welded and the solder with a little heat. Both damage the finish a little
Every company can slip up now and again. All Iāve heard about LaRue is that ātheyāre so nice, great folks etc etcā and I call them for the shop owner to ask some questions he had and whoever I spoke to on the phone was extrememly rude to me.
Needless to say the shop owner now chooses to never recommend them for anything.
My 14.5" LMT upper arrived at ADCO on the 8th and I got the UPS email notification today that it is being shipped back to me. Pretty good turn around time and I look forward to trying it out.
damn 6 days that is a fast turn around :eek:could you post a few pics when it gets back to you ?I would love to see the work thank you
