Is anybody loading the 124 gr. Speer Gold Dot bullet in 9 mm. over Ramshot Silhouette powder? I fired a few 10 round strings for function testing in a Glock 19, but I have not chronoed them yet. I am using 5.5 grs. in Winchester brass and CCI 500 primers. The listed charge weight is close to the book max and overall length runs 1.125-1.130 inches.
I love the GD 124 gr, but I use 6.0 gr of Unique.
When I loaded 124gr Rainer FP over 5.5gr Winchester Action Pistol (basically the same as Silhouette) and WSP primer, Winchester brass I got about 1150FPS from my Glock 19. I like this load.
Thanks for the input. I’ll chrono it next time I have the screens set up, probably in the spring. I have Win 231 and Unique on hand also, but I wanted to develop a decent load with Silhouette, due to its low flash reputation.
Great timing, I just loaded up my first 124 gr Gold Dot’s today. Im using Universal Clays and CCI 500’s.
I previously settled on 5.2 grains of Universal Clays for Hornady 124 grain XTP’s so Im gonna try 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3 for the Gold Dots. 5.3 is max load in the Sierra manual.
