12.5" done and SPR/M4 in hands, but too heavy

So all my parts are in and on my 12.5" SBR and I picked up my AAC SPR/M4 can about 3 weeks ago.

Ran it in a recent local match and holy crap its heavy. I need to get a good accurate scale but I know the can itself is adding a ton of weight.

Im rethinking this set up, here are current specs:

Upper:
Colt M4 upper receiver
Daniel Defense 12.5" standard contour with DD pinned Lopro GB
Centurion 9" rail
Troy folding BUIS
Aimpoint H1 in Larue tall mount
Surefire x300
BCM BCG and CH

Lower:
Mega Arms Billet lower (I know this is some unneeded weight is)
Vltor A5 buffer tube, spring and heavy buffer
LMT Sopmod stock
Magpul MIAD
BAD-ASS selector

Ive been thinking about getting the Daniel Defense lightweight profile 12.5" and going with an MOE 7" handguard and MOE stock. Also I see Rainier has a non FA upper that is alot lighter.

Thoughts?

Is this a joke?

Are you really saying your SBR is too heavy?

SBR a standard lower and get a Surefire Mini or the AAC Mini4. Other than that you will need to hit the gym a little. Unless you want to dump the rail etc… which will be a costly learning lesson.

You guys are right. Just wasnt sure if I was missing something.

Thanks

12.5" BCM with SS barrel and M4-2000

The mount and SPR/m4 is at most 4 oz heavier than my suppressor setup, which doesn’t hold a candle to my heavier barrel, heavy optic, and rail+FSP setup.

My rifle is not heavy at all…in fact it feels just a bit heavier than a 16" midlength and your rifle has to weigh less than mine.

Is it HEAVY… or Nose Heavy??? Believe it or not… adding one of those heavy Magpul Stocks… (i forget which one since they have 87 different friggin models) could actually give it a balanced feel.

Iraqgunz used to have something like that going on… The beefy stock balanced the gun out.

Thoughts?

Don’t shoot matches. Problem solved… plus, It’s gay. :stuck_out_tongue:

Correct- the UBR seemed to balance it out overall, albeit with adding some weight to the set up.

Yeah I guess I should have been more specific. Nose heavy, which is obvious with the SPR/M4.

I got a DD LW 12.5 on order to take some off the front. As far as the UBR Im reluctant to get rid of my A5 setup right now.

I have a Tigerswan carbine class coming up in a few months Ill give it a good run over 3 days and go from there.

I’m reluctant to run a LW barrel and a Silencer. The can transfers too much heat to the barrel… plus the weight of the can makes POI shift that much worse on a thin barrel.

As far as the UBR Im reluctant to get rid of my A5 setup right now.

I agree. The A5 should stay.

I was wondering about that as well with the thin barrel.

Ill try it out, if its too much shift Ill put the standard back on and sell the LW. With my dealer price through Daniel Defense I can make out ok if I dont keep it.

I thought this was already a SBR?

I’ve seen a MITER suppressor mount fit on a 11.5” gun with a nonstandard gas block so that would move the weigh in and lose about 1.2oz. A 11.5” .625 barrel is a lot stiffer than a 14.5” .625 barrel and with the unpredictable nature of barrel harmonics I would just go with the lighter barrel and use the SPR adjustability to minimize POI shift.

so you can’t put a UBR on an A5 exstension tube?

I’ll quote 13th Warrior: “Grow Stronger,” said the battle-hardened Viking when Antonio Banderas complained about the weight of his sword.

My SBRed lower is billet, Im doing a Form 1 on a Noveske forged which is a bit lighter.

No the UBR uses an A2 fixed stock like tube, the stock attaches via a screw in the rear. A5 buffer tube wont work.

I don’t think the spr-m4 mount will work on anything shorter than a 12.5" barrel.

Is it heavy or is the balance way off compounding the felt weight? I find balance to be as important and for me more important than the actual weight. I see you are running a SOPMOD and in my experience that is a great stock with just the right amount of counter balance that any of my 5.56 rifles have ever needed.

My MWS is the only rifle that I’m thinking of adding even more weight to with the UBR to help with the balance on what is already a pig heavy rifle. For the record I love the MWS and the weight doesnt bother me at all based upon how i run it. The more I run it the lighter it feels.:neo:

I got to run a DD 10.3 and DD MK18 rail with a SF Mini, IMHO it was perfection and how I will be setting up my two 10.5 LMT’s.

You might try adding batteries to the tubes on the SOPMOD. It may help you balance it out.

Pretty gun. Just shoot it without the can. That sounds like what is bothering you.

anything smaller than a 240/249 is light to me.

Note the OP’s screen name. :big_boss:

It will fit on an 11.5 with a small (1") gas block and 7" rail.

Im thinking about a 11.5 Noveske switchblock barrel as Ive been told by Todd at Noveske that it will work.
