I am expecting my new 11.5 SBR A3 complete upper to arrive soon and I was just curious what to expect as far as performance/reliability. This is a standard DI upper and will be mounted on a semi-auto only lower. My question is mainly regarding the gas port. Will it come correctly sized for that barrel length? Should I expect any function problems on a semi only weapon, ie classic short barrel problems?
What brand?
Its coming from M+A parts, its a standard 11.5 complete A3 upper receiver. I know they sale many brands, but I dont know what mine is. It is not advertised as LMT, its a less expensive one. Hope this helps.
I can tell you that if the gas port is oversized, you will have problems.
9 times out of ten, an upper with problems has oversized gas port or a gas leakage problem from a loose gas key.
There are solutions to fix these types of problems.
Your best bet is to go run 500 rounds through it while keeping it good and wet with CLP.
Log ANY and ALL malfunctions if they occur.
Report back on the results and I’m certain we can help if you run into problems.
M&A to me is of suspect quality, but you may luck out.
I have two Colt 6933s each with about 500-1k rounds through them and have not had a problem with either one after the first mag. I like to shoot them with no lube just as they come out of the box for the first mag as a personal experiment. So far every gun I’ve done this with has had a malfunction on the first mag.
You won’t know til you get it to the range. Usually SBR’s will need a heavier buffer and/or an extractor upgrade to run properly. Of course, choice of ammo usually is a deciding factor as well. Provided you’re mags are god to go. I started with an H2 buffer & BCM extractor upgrade on my SBR’s before I even got them to range the first time. They all run well with just those two mods & shooting new manufacture Federal 55 grain TRU rounds. Everyone elses experience will prolly vary.
