11.5" SBR

This is the process of my 11.5" build. I went with a Form 1 individual transferee.

  1. Started by calling BATFE and requesting a Form 1 packet. It arrived in about 3 days. It includes your Forms, FBI fingerprint cards.
    Number is (304) 616-4500.

  2. Noveske lower reciever from DSG Arms. These guys are awesome and fast. http://dsgarms.com/
Here it is while picking it up from my FFL.

  1. I immediately sent it off to be engraved. I chose the right hand side FCG. I used Orion arms, the guy does amazing work.

His turn around time is around a week for me. Here it is completed

  1. After I got my lower back I finished up with my Form 1’s,
Went to Wal-Greens for passport photos.
Do NOT attach your photos when dropping the Form 1’s for you CLEO sign-off.

After he signs your forms, then you attach them along with your $200.00 check or money order.

  1. After the Forms were sent to BATFE for approval I ordered my barrel.

I was planning on a Free float handguard, so the FSB was a no-go

After the sling mount, sight post and bayonet lug were ground down

This is just more contouring and cleaning up around the gas tube part of the block

After it was blued

And installed

Next I chose to just store the upper at my dads house since hes not an AR owner.

I sent my Forms in June 13th and recieved them Oct 6th. From pending to approval was 109 days

Nice, very nice - congratulations!!!

Thanks man!

Good for you for getting your upper before they sold out. I don’t want a hammer-forged or light-weight barrel, which is all BCM has in stock right now. I hope they’ll get 'em back in stock in the time it takes the bureau to send me back my tax stamp. Otherwise, I am inclined to go with the LMT 10.5.

Ya I know.

Actually a friend of mine was ordering one anyway, this was back in july, and he placed the order for 2 of them. Which really helped me out.

We called and they told us the end of august or october, they were in 2 days later lol.

So keep your eyes open, you gotta check it every day! You will get one, dont worry.

The LMT 10.5" I might go with next, that or a DD 10.3"

Great thread, informative with lots of great pics…should really help out others when going through the form 1 process.

They took like 2-3weeks to send me my requested packets. I ordered them through the ATF Distribution Center order form online which leads me to believe that perhaps the best way to receive them fast is to just call them like you did.

Perfect WL setup as the GS mount is rock solid, and running the m300a w/ the SR-07 creates a true ambi setup.

Outta curiousty, have you tried a GS or KAC handstop on it yet? I found it makes a perfect addition to the whole m300a/GS mount/top rail mounted SR07 combo. Not that there is anything wrong w/ your current setup, just a suggestion that you might want to play around with in the future.

Enjoy and don’t spend all your money on ammo trying to melt that rifle as I’m pretty sure it can’t be done:)

eta…DSG ships lightning fast, they are a first class operation and I have ordered tons of stuff from them over the yrs.

I hate you.

But that is a pretty sweet setup. I am going to have something almost identical to that soon (even down to the light placement and switch), except using a Centurion rail and a T1.

Thank you Trident, I appreciate the reply. Your shorty has always inspired me, I used different parts as you but I got ideas from yours and a few others on this site.

AS for a handstop, I have not tried one, I use my VFG for a handstop and indexing point, the rifle is heavier than it should be and I need to lose some weight. Its about the same as my M4 which is ridiculous.

Part is due to the position I run my optic far forward, the only thing I need is a Larue Cantilever mount and my build should be done for now. Oh and a BC.

Thank you again for the ideas and tips. I will try some other configurations out for sure

Looks good…though I wouldnt mount my optic on the handguard. Very nice work on the fsb/gas block conversion!

Lol and I hate you for the stuff you have on the way! Hahaha

I cant wait to see what you have planned head to pics on my screen!

Thanks again man. Its pretty much exactly what I had in my head from day one.

The LaRue Cant. mount needs to be on it now though, although I am kind of starting to like the Co-witness mount, it sits low to the rail and its easy on easy off.

The part I HATE is the mounting hardware that sticks out 4 fricken feet on the side!

Thanks man.

On the mounting placement, it IS a FF handguard, but the way its designed…it tilts to the side a little, I was wondering if anyone had experience with mounting an optic on the TRX, I though FF was GTG for mountingg optics.

I am waiting to put The Cantilever mount on.

My funds are gone at this point and its not gettin any better lol.

A long time ago I had this setup

Don’t quote me, but I believe it is lighter than the Larue and definitely doesn’t stick out as far. ADM is good stuff, unless you just want a Larue. The Larue has extra battery storage too.

ADM makes a cantilever mount.

Oh I wasnt talkin about my LaRue mount sticking out far, I was reffering to the one on the SBR.

I have the LaRue on my M4. I love that one.

Ill check those out for sure though. Are they pretty tough?

Huge believer in ADM kit…can’t go wrong w/ larue or bobro though.

Do you still use this grip when shooting BCm…

If so we share a similar if not exact same grip and at some point I think you might want to give a handstop a try as it will give you the same index point and ability to generate reward pressure for shouldering and maintaining muzzle rise, all the while reducing the size of the rifle’s profile and shaving a few ounces off the total weight.

I also really like my BAC2.0 on my 10.5"…while it’s not absolutely necessary, it certainly has some advantages over the A2 that I started out with on the rifle.

Sure do. Its a little more tricky running it on the M4, its more difficult to get my arm extended.

I also only run my stock in Position 2.

I just like the optic there and my nose almost touches the charge handle.

The handstop would for sure save me some weight

Great looking rifle! How do you like the Troy muzzle device?

Thank you! It was alot of time and work

I havent got to try it yet.

My stamp came in on thurs.

I will let you know for sure. I have been pretty anxious to try the Claymore for awhile now.

Nice setup.

I’m running a very similar setup on my 11.5 BCM. Another item you may want to look into is the IWC light mount for the Scout/Troy TRX setup (link below). It will eliminate the use of the rail section and should cut down on the weight from what you are running now and pull the light in tighter to the rail. I don’t use the IWC scout mount but I have the same mount for a Surefire VTAC L4 (E2 style light) and it’s good stuff. I was running a rail section gear sector setup like yours with the L4 prior.

My setup:

Ya thats almost it huh. Actually I almost went with a mount n slot just like that.

I do need to lose some weight of this thing.

If I had more funding at this point I would try some other stuff, its making it so I have to use the stuff I have for awhile though which is cool.

I want to make sure I like it before I go changing stuff.

Is that an M3 or an M2…

Also, what is on the end of your barrel?

nice work on the gas block
