I wanted opionions. I have an 11.5" set up with a flat top and DPMS rear A2. I know the A2 isn’t really need for a 11.5" but I use the RIBZ so I can set it for 25,50,100,200 yards with a few clicks.
My question is, I was thinking of putting an A2 upper on it for a Colt Commando style carbine.
Every rifle I have has a flat top, but the A2 set up is about as clean as it gets.
I know it’s my rifle to do with as I want but I would like opinions on what you would do.
Thanks,
Dave
Simple range/home defense.
I already have a carbine I used on the PD set up with light, Aimpoint, DD lite rail, vfg.
I have others that are scoped or fitted with flat tops and iron sights.
I have a removable carry handle for it and have the removable A2 rear on it now.
So to answer the question, it’s an extra carbine. I want to keep it as KISS as I can.
sounds like a perfectly good idea to me, then. i have been really tempted to go A2 upper recently myself… having grown up on an m16a2, it’s a big nostalgia thing for me.
i did go with an A2 carry handle on my last upper project… partly because i just don’t want to drop dime on a new aimpoint right now, but mostly because i figured i should try to get back into irons a bit. i only started using RDSs about 3 years ago, and haven’t really done ANY iron shooting since… when the world ends, there will be no batteries, afterall.
ETA: and shorties with A2s are fricken sectsy. i’d love to see pics when you’re done.
I think it is a great idea. I want to do one myself too. Check out the the vintage AR section here on m4c there have been a few recent photos of just this type of gun.
