10mm Wiley Clapp Ruger SP101 magnaported and other work?

Hey Gang,

So on a whim last year, I bought a cool little Ruger SP101 in 10mm. I wanted a Smith Night guard, but they go for over 1500 bucks, so no joy.

As I was shooting this little wheel gun the other day I got to thinking about making it a project gun. Here is what I am thinking:

  1. VZ grips. Mostly cosmetic but I like them.
  2. Action job
  3. Magnaporting. Why the hell not?
  4. Velvet hone/pin stripe: totally cosmetic but it looks cool.

SO questions: Anyone had magnaport do a ruger action job? Anyone had magnaport do a 3 inch barrel wheel gun? Anyone use the VZ grips? Any other suggestions? want a night sight, but otherwise what else?

Thanks,

D

Also, any idea how long magna port takes?

I would give a magnaported revolver a test fire before having yours modified. I find them very unpleasant (loud) to shoot. If you happen to fire the gun in an odd position the ports can direct all sorts of nasty stuff towards your face, eyes. Not the end of the world if the gun is to be used exclusively for hunting. On a defensive weapon like the SP101 I would pass

SP101 in 10mm wowza, I want one. Pictures please!!!

I have one revolver with Mag-na-Port (done by a previous owner) and consider it a completely useless and counterproductive modification, IMO. That said, I have a three-inch Super Redhawk with an action job and it is very smooth. Since the SP101 shares the same lockwork I imagine it would be easy to smooth out.

VZ grips are exceptional. Unless going for a full-blown custom set of stocks from the likes of Rob Rowen, etc, they are my preferred grips.

Seriously! Maybe it’s a GP100, not an SP101?

Damn. correct sorry. GP100. not SP101. thanks for the catch.

All good just thought I missed out on a 10mm pocket gun.

No worries. Would have been sweet, tho!

I almost bought one of these last year but picked up a Glock 20 instead (which I didn’t like). I’m eager to watch your project unfold!

Have been considering a G20…may I ask what all you didnt like about it?

Big bulky Glock. Exactly what it was advertised as, I just couldn’t see myself wanting to lug that around on hikes, so I sold it.
