First— 180gr hornady xtp is loaded quite weak if I recall. Try DoubleTap or Buffalo Bore
More information is needed how where your hits. Also the further out you go the more recoil will affect your speed. On close in drills my open gun with no recoil is not that much faster than my 45 acp. But stretch the range out and the difference in shot to shot time goes up exponentially.

To be more precise my bill drill/el prez/10yd ect splits ran .17-.20 compared to .15-.18 with a .45 1911. Those times were years ago before I abandoned 1911’s but my current equivilent with M&P9 is .16-.18 and only -0 hits count.
As far as it requiring more control at greater distances that may be true(I did win a IDPA ESP match with it:cool:) but up close you are not sacrificing much except length of practice time.
IMHO there are alot of reasons to not use a 10mm but controlability isnt one of them for an experienced shooter. Will you be slower than with your 9mm, of course, but hopefully you are honest enough with yourself before you go the 10mm route to know if you should even go there.
I consider myself an ok shooter. I carried a glock 20 10mm for a time as my duty weapon. It was harder to control. This problem magnifired itself when shooting strong and weak handed. (one handed) and from akward positions. I just don’t see the 10mm as offering any real edge for any shooter experienced or otherwise for self defense against humans.

I was not expressing myself properly and ment that controlability was not an issue NORMALLY(emphysis added for clarity not to yell). However the whole improvised position issue is one of the “lot of reasons not to use the 10mm” I have. Also while my adult live has been in TN(moved day after graduation) I was born and raised in MT and I would imagine that as an Alaska resident you can see the reasons for 10mm(to a greater degree probably) that people might have beyond 2 legged targets.
I wrote this articlea while back on why I prefer 10mm Auto over the “big 3” handgun cartridges. The tl;dr version is this: all handgun cartridges are anemic, any advantage you can give yourself should be considered. If you can comfortably shoot 10mm as well as anything else it’s a great choice. I personally shoot a few hundred rounds of hot 10mm a month, and at least a few mags of full power (DoubleTap or CorBon) per range trip, and at this point feel as comfortable shooting my G20 as I do anything else, both in speed and accuracy. Yes it’s expensive, but if you carry you may need to rely on your handgun one day it’s a small price to pay even if the advantage is small over a 9mm, .40 S&W, or .45acp.
I’ve shot many 10mm 1911s, EAA Witness 10mms, and an S&W steel framed 10mm and found the G20 handles the recoil much better. The older Delta Elites and Witnesses both had problems with frames/slides cracking, I wouldn’t trust either to take hundreds of rounds of full power 10 auto. A G20, especially with an aftermarket barrel, could easily take 10s of thousands of rounds with no issue. I also don’t like ported/comped 10mm barrels, in my opinion the muzzle flash increase is not worth the trade off for the reduced recoil, as the flash is already a larger problem with 10mm than the recoil in the first place.
I had a 22, 23 & 27 in 40 S&W and like my 20 10mm better but for carry I like my 19 9mm better than all of them. I found the larger hand filling, heavier Glock 20 to be easier to control than the smaller, lighter 40s especially with hot loads. I like the 10mm alot but 9mm so so much cheaper to shoot.
I also have an S&W 610 in 10mm which is one of my favorite revolvers ever.
The power advantage of the 10mm is off set by the slower rate of fire. Everything in life is a compromise. I personally would rather have a 9mm Glock for personal defense vs a 10mm one. I prefer a custom 1911 in 45 acp to either. To each his own. Just make sure you train with what you carry. One more thing no need to run expensive 10mm ammo for training. Get a reloader and reload it as hot as your carry ammo is and practice with that. That is what I did when I carried a 10mm.

Interesting Alaska statistic. Unfortunately, neither the Corbon or Buffalo Bore 200 grain penetrator loads run in three Glock 20’s I have, which kind of undermines the argument for a G20 in Alaska. That ammo does run in my Delta.
True but a 10mm is pathetic ballistically when compared to a good 44 magnum load. Don’t even think of comparing it to a real powerhouse like my 5 shot heavy loaded 45 colt with 350 grain lead slugs at 1350 fps.

Well I do have a 4" redhawk for the heavier stuff, but that’s for recoil amusement more than anything. Much easier to shoot the G20 because I shoot glocks in 9mm.
And also I live in CO, I’m more concerned about the dumb-ass neighbor’s pitbulls breaking out of their broken down fence than kodiak bears! Faster first and subsequent shots is a good thing!
I am a glock armorer,so you not just getting B.S. I had the glock 20 ,and the 20c, its the only gun under rapid fire you need the c . And it dont mess up your night vision after 1st shot. Its great ,and i can tell its compensated even with a blindfold on .Worth the extra cash and be different, not too many glock 20cs used. I never seen one…glock2026
