10MM AR

Anybody have one? Who else besides Oly makes one?

I don’t know of any others. I love the 10mm from a carbine, and since I had to turn in my issued one, I was shopping a few years ago for an AR in 10mm.

I wanted the ergonomics and controls of an AR, with the punch of full power 10mm. As I learned more about quality AR’s, I decided not to give any of my money to Olympic Arms.

Unfortunately I don’t believe 10mm has the following it would need to see a real carbine ever developed.

Full house 10mm would seem to have GREAT application for short-range punching power. Unfortunately, the MP-5 in 10mm isn’t available to us lowly civilians - that always seemed the perfect-sized package, too.

This might be a good SME question - is there ANY way to strengthen an Oly 10mm, to reliable ‘shooter grade?’ Might end up being a sinkhole for cash, though. :o

What are the advantages of a 10mm ar over an ar in 5.56?

None, actually.

Unless you want a common cartridge between handgun and carbine, that is.

Or you have to deal with mopes in vehicles. A 5.56 round will have trouble (unless green tip) getting through just a car door. A 10mm round from a subgun/carbine will make it look easy.

The only reason 10mm MP-5’s are going away isn’t because they are not viable on the street. It’s because HK won’t make them or parts for them anymore. Not trying to start a 5.56 v. (X) caliber carbine war. They each have their place. I’m just offering information to the OP’s question.

To War_Wagon, you can get a semi auto SBR MP5 clone in 10mm. It will be expensive… but it has been done.

Other than HK, did anyone market a 10mm subgun or carbine for that matter? If the demand was high enough, someone would make it, but the price of ammunition seems to be the stopping point for 10mm firearms. I do agree though, it would make a helluva short range weapon for enntry teams and the like.

Don’t knock an Oly Arms pistol caliber upper until you try it. They are blowback operated instead of gas like a standard AR so they work differently and are very reliable. I’ve fired my .40 upper doing full auto mag dumps and it has yet to fail. I haven’t had a single misfeed or malfunction ever with the .40 upper.

It’s a very reliable system and fun too.

I had an Oly 9mm a long time ago. I never had any problems with it running, but was not happy with the fit and finish. I’ll bet with a little work it could be made pretty servicable.

Mechtech makes an upper assembly for the 10mm that drops onto a glock, then you could just use reliable and easy to find glock mags.

IIRC, according to ballistics by the inch the 10mm reaches the point of diminishing returns velocity wise at around a 12" barrel. Might be pretty sweet to cut down a mechtech and run it with a 20-30 round mag.

I don’t believe this is an accurate statement considering the advancements in barrier blind projectiles in 5.56. I wouldn’t even really consider a car door much of a barrier these days, the sloped laminated glass of the windshield has proven to be more difficult.

Ron M Williams makes a DI 10mm upper. Feather Industries makes a carbine, Auto Ordnance made a 10mm Thompson, and there’s the Glock and 1911 carbine conversions. That’s all I can think of off the top of my head.

Thanks for your replys. I would to stay with an AR type of gun. My buddy has an Oly .45 upper. He likes it a lot. I might get just an Oly 10MM barrel and assemble it myself. Is Oly the only source for bolts and what about the the ejector. I think Oly’s is built into the upper. I would preferr a block in the lower.

Totally sucks only Olympic Arms makes one. I would love to get 10mm or 44 mag in semi auto carbine. Man that would be awesome! But the only thing quality manufactures make in a handgun cartridge is the 9mm. Totally sucks.
