Ok, guy’s this may sound like a dumb question but I want to know who is building a totally 100% mil-spec M4 carbine these day’s. Aside from BCM of course. I’m trying to find one that is as similar as possible to the one I carried on deployment. I know a civilian version will not have the auto selector. Iv’e looked at the BCM M4 Mod2 but that has a 16" barrel, I want 14.5. These things may not matter to many but it does to me, so any info would be greatly appreciated…
The closest you are gonna get is the one from BCM you mentioned. To get a 14.5in gun it had to have the muzzle device pinned and welded on to get it to the minimum legal length of 16in.
My guns are all 14.5 and they are pinned and welded with various AAC suppressor mounts.
No one makes 100% mil-spec, it’s a myth for the commercial market.
Colt hold the TDP meaning they’re the best to look at that’ll come truly the closest.
Other companies who have the TDP aren’t allowed to use it to make commercial rifles.
If you want the closest to mil-spec go colt if you don’t wanna get a BCM
A colt 6920 with a chopped and pinned muzzle device is exactly what you caried. Actually, to have a true milspec A2 flash hider you would have to sbr the rifle.

I’m sorry I can’t do that anymore, They tell me I’m not physically able, wish I were I’d be back over there with my bro’s…But thanks for your suggestion…
GandR sells a 14.5 Colt upper with a matech rear sight, just needs the KAC handguard. I’m starting a similar build with a APTIAL-C in place of a true PEQ-15
As others have mentioned, a Colt 6921 upper is a legit 100% milspec M4 carbine upper. I have a Colt 6921 with a pinned BCM A2X flash hider on top of a Colt 6920 lower. I love the setup. Throw a KAC RAS on the upper and you’ve got something that is pretty damned close to a M4. Again, the Colt 6921 upper is a legit M4 upper and a colt 6920 lower is fairly close. the lower doesn’t matter all that much (I do like the Colt roll marks). Obviously the FCG isn’t going to be to spec, but the milspec FCG is pretty much crap anyways.
I can’t believe it took 8 posts for the Colt 6921 to come up, which the OP is never gonna buy.
Why would I not buy a Colt 6921??? please explain…
I’m pretty sure he stated that he already served and carried one…
Sir,
You realize the 6921 is an SBR semiautomatic rifle. Which is very legal to own.
I started this post by saying I was looking for something that came as close as possible to the M4 I carried, I could put a permanent brake on the 14.5 barrel of the Colt 6921 and make it legal without going SBR. Does BCM make anything that come close???
Get a 14.5" Colt upper from Grant with the pinned A2X, and pair it to a Colt, BCM, LMT, SIONICS, etc. lower. You could also build the lower if you wanted, but I’d just source a Colt lower.
Or hell, grab a 6920, sell the upper, and put the one from Grant on it.
That’s going to be the closest you can get.
Buy a 6921 upper, Colt lower, or complete 6920 that you chop down or switch barrels. Cannot go wrong with either choice
