100 gr .224 bullet

Shall we?

Flat base means probably not a great distance bullet.

Maybe it would make a good short to medium range self defense round. What kind of velocity will you get out of them?

No idea. I wish I could get a sample to see what they do at 100.

Is that going to stabilize in a 1/7? I think it might be right at the edge.

I vaguely remember some chatter about something like this a few years ago, somewhere. Seems like no one could get them to run well. I’m not much of a reloader yet, so not really on my radar. Might want to try some google-fu.

Didn’t Hornady used to make some 90gr? Seems like everyone thought those sucked too.

Easily. Have you ever seent an M856 bullet? Long as hell. I’d bet that the 856 bullet is longer than these… or at least close.

I might buy a box to try. I have no hopes that this is a 1000 yard bullet due to the flat base, but they might be entertaining.

Yeah the tracer bullets are long.

I don’t know what the purpose of these would be.

Neither do I. They even say that they don’t expand at subsonic.

The 85 gr Matchburner bullet is probably a better option out to 750 or so.

Based on what I can see, the bullet ogive is pretty blunt compared to a VLD or a traditional ogive.

I shot the 85 Matchburners with 22.5 RL15 out of a 16" AR to 1000. That barrel is an old fluted SS Sabre Defense, that shoots 3/4 MOA with 77s.

It was a while ago and I lost my dope, but they will get out there.

Yep. They can’t have a very high BC. I’ve not found the 85 match burners to be the best pick for beyond 650-750. For us, the good old 77 SMK or TMK are more consistent at 1000.

Well Mark, only one way to know for sure. Buy some, load em, and report back. So long as it’s your time and money, I’m willing to be real generous with it  .

I expect to be back in Prescott full time after the new year. Might have to see about hooking up with you and Pappa. Since Will passed I hear you guys are short a guy who runs late and shows up with his shit all messed up. I can fill that niche.

Oh the pain of Iraqgunz showing up late in shambles with his M4’s dot not even zeroed.

I just ordered 2k of pistol bullets, but next order I might add some of these. I’ve been on a pistol kick lately and barely fire my M4s. So odd for me.

Aren’t these for .22 ARC?

Isn’t that cartridge designed to take extremely heavy-for-caliber bullets?

Well their description indicated an overrun for some foreign contract or something. I have no idea what 22 arc is.

This reminds me I need to get off my ass and order a 1:7” twist barrel in .22 Creedmoor for my AI AT-X.

I want to play with fast moving .224 heavy match bullets.

Those 88 gr ELDMs are great. Nosler’s 85 gr RDFs are fun too.

.22ARC…

Hornady’s new super-heavy-for-caliber cartridge that fits in a regular AR platform.

IIRC it’s designed around 80-90gr bullets, but 100gr seems do-able…

Geez. I run 85s in the standard AR with ease. The RDFs are great, but really the 77 TMK can be taken beyond 1000 in good contitions.

85s at mag length or single load…?

85 RDFs and 85 Barnes Match Burners both can go mag length.

Here’s the RDFs. The ogive looks odd at mag length, but they work.
