Are there any tangible differences between these two uppers? They are within $100 of each other and seem to be spec’ed the same. Both are reputable names though, Noveske seems to have much more loyal following among people that really use their AR-15’s/M-16’s and take training seriously. So, should I save the extra $100 for ammunition or, is there something different between the two I’m missing?
I would get whichever one you can find in stock for the cheapest price. Whether it is from Noveske, Daniel Defense, LMT, Colt, or Centurion; youre getting a product that is practically identical to the next manufacturer. Are you going for the Mod 0 or Mod 1 style? If its the Mod 1 style I would wait for AIM Surplus to get the Daniel Defense uppers in stock, they sell for $799 on their site. I went Mod 0 and got a LMT upper from Rainier Arms, not much more than I would have paid direct through LMT and less hassle with the website.
Either would make a really decent & reliable SBR. I honestly lean towards Noveske just because of the barrels & inherent accuracy but is it worth the extra $? That is something that you will have to decide honestly.
The Noveske is 10.5" and the Daniel Defense is actually 10.3". Not a huge difference but it could matter depending on what suppressor if any you plan to mount.
Running a ~10.5" upper and adding ~5" for a suppressor doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Especially since I’m not worried about setting ether off in a drug house. Heck, why not just go with a 16" upper enjoy better ballistic performance?
Ever let a few rounds fly in a room without ear pro? That’s why. If user ever intends to shoot in a house/room as a result of their profession or HD, a can is definitely worth it.
I looked at both and went with the Noveske because it was in stock. The DD is not. That was my only reason for not choosing the DD. When I was going over the specs on the Noveske I noticed that the rail was a DD rail. I’m going to run it with a can but not full time. I’ve been reading the recent threads concerning running an SBR surpressed and setting them up properly. I really wanted to go with the Noveske with a Switchblock but couldn’t afford the extra $800 or so to purchase the complete weapon from Noveske. I can use that $800 towards a can.
For their 10.5 stainless barrel I would agree, I cannot see how their chrome lined barrels can be any more accurate than anyone elses considering the inconsistencies involved with chrome lining a bore.
I keep electronic hearing protection close by at home. I want to hear foot steps at the other end of the house, door knobs being turned, etc.
If I have the time to grab my M-16 or SBR or SBS, I have time to put on hearing protection IMHO. If not, a suppressed handgun will have to suffice. I have been in “shoot houses” and I have walked the interior of my home with a long arm so I’m somewhat prepared if it ever comes to that. I’d rather have extra barrel/velocity over a can in that sort of situation but YMMV.
Yes but I cant run a flash hider with the suppressor. The unburnt powder EATS my 1st baffle. Using the muzzle brake mount gives me two sacraficial baffles to destroy before the heat/powder reach the can. I however have the flash hider mount on my 16" SPR.
I understand that aspect of preserving can life but its a bit disingenuous to say thats why you need a can on an SBR when you’re showing one of the worst examples of a muzzle device for flash reduction possible without the use of a can.
At home/CQB distances, the “extra barrel/velocity” that you would get won’t matter. TAP T2 still fragments out to 50 or so yards reliably out of a 10.5". Don’t know how big your house is, but I highly doubt you will have a shot inside longer than 50 yds. For HD/CQB I will take a 10.5" with can over a 16" and earpro any day of the week.
Just commenting, but I have found IMI M193 has little or no flash from my MK18 with just an A2 FH on it. Still though, I am foaming at the mouth for an NT4-QDSS.
My 10.5" Noveske with M4-2000 is still shorter than a 16" gun. Shorter, quieter, and has less blast and concussion. How is that not better than a 16" gun. Especially inside for HD.
