10.5 300blk barrel

LGS happens to have a 10.5 300blk barrel in stock for a good price. carbine gas system, but the reason i made this post is, I asked them to check the size of the barrel around the gas ports. it came in at .876? seems really odd measurement to me, is this common? can i find a gas block to fit that? i am going to go back today and just check to see if a .750 gas block will fit thinking that MAYBE their calibers where just off? This shop has a full gunsmithing setup, see any problems with just getting them to put it on the lathe and take it down if it is just out of spec? (i dont know if they will/can even do that just looking for options and thoughts.) I dont have a lot of dealings with they guys there but they do seem to be real honest and very helpful. fire away!

The slap head probably measured the shoulder behind the port area.

I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure he measured pretty much right on top of the gas port, but at the same time i cant say i was paying much attention to where he was measuring, I was fondling a vltor upper. I will get it double checked when i go back. to make sure that wasnt the case.

Odd. There is one hugemungous gas block size above .750, but I can’t remember the diameter off the top of my head.

.960 or something like that i think…

Double check the gas system length too. I would think carbine length gas on a 10.5 Blk barrel would have some function issues.

Pistol length gas system works best.

Instead of fooling with a out of spec barrel, I just ordered a Noveske 12.2" from rainier arms. Even if I had gotten the other barrel into spec around the gas ports who knows what the chamber specs are on it. I don’t need that hassle. It may or may not be a good barrel, but I know what I am getting now.

disregard

They do have .875 gas blocks.

You won’t be disappointed that you went this way.

well its good to know the barrel didnt just have some random sized barrel around the gas ports. I was not aware they made a gas block in that size. I have no doubt i will be happy with the noveske barrel.

You can’t expect a 10.5 inch barrel with a carbine gas system to work.
