That now leads to me to believe they have no clue where he is.
I think he either attended the Kurt Cobain school of marksmanship or weaseled his way back to population for a “heres johnny” moment.
They really put a bounty on his head? Link?
If so, then he’s fucked.
If he stayed up there then I think he is a corpsicle and it’ll be Spring before some dog-walker finds the body. Recent snowfall filling cuts and gulches (hiding spots) with overnight lows hitting in the teens in the past few nights spell doom for an exhausted guy, all sweaty, trying to carry a bunch of shit into the hills. According to news reports, camping gear burned up in the truck. Even with some Gore-tex and a wooby-suit I doubt he could have kept up physically after the low hit the teens and the frostbite started setting into his hands, feet, ears and nose. As soon as he got stationary to hide with the falling temps, that’d be it with his body temp falling with the snow and the outside air temperature. I doubt he made it to Saturday AM if he hadn’t gotten out of the AO all-together.
Do you happen to know the specific area where where they think he entered the woods? I’d like to do a little Map-Recon on Google Earth for curiosity’s sake.
I’m standing by my hypothesis that he intentionally set his truck on fire to draw attention to it then took a separate vehicle back into the LA area or just left town for a while until it died down.
This gives him either:
A) a clean get-away to wait until this all dies down and for the situation to relax before making another strike or
B) kills morale and increases fatigue of his chasers and allows him much easier access to his intended victims within LA
Why else would his truck be on fire? I mean they don’t usually spontaneously combust…
And for someone who spent years setting this up, it seems like pretty piss poor planning to basically get hunted down and caught on a mountain. Unless he has a WMD and is trying to minimize collateral damage while taking out as many LEOs as possible.
Dude. If an armed civilian caught Chris Dorner, we’d have some REALLY good press on our side.
This is exactly what he said he’d do. Unconventional. He’s going to wait until he’s not on the news anymore.
I’m not sure. He honestly comes across like a bungler to me. I have doubts that he has any idea what he’s doing or has a workable plan.
May I ask what parts of his behavior have led you to that conclusion?
To me, the evidence screams “I know exactly what I’m doing.”
Unless he has a nuclear bomb at Big Bear and is just trying to collect all the LE in one place while minimizing collateral damage.
I don’t think he has a nuclear bomb. But you never know. I just watched a few episodes of “Extreme smuggling” on Discovery, and it’s pretty crazy how much crap gets across our borders.
If he had the wherewithal to pre-stage a vehicle then he’d have taken the gear in the truck instead of abandoning it. Reports state the truck had a broken axle, I grew up in AK and lived in the PNW for a long time, spinning your tires in mixed traction roads breaks axles, that is the act of the inexperienced or panicked. He has been shedding gear since San Diego, not the act of the well planned individual. He is in over his head and his Butch and Sundance moment eluded him. Look at his history, this isn’t a detail guy, he is mister half-ass and has been professionally since college, never finishing anything and always blaming someone else for the failure.
I’m curious as to where he was going in a boat. He tried to steal a boat and screwed that up. I’m wondering how that played into his plans.
From San Diego I’d assume Mexico.
All they are reporting is his truck was found near the Big Bear ski area and the search command center is located in Big Bear. I spent a weekend at Big Bear Lake years ago. It’s pretty rough country once you get off the beaten track.
ETA: Just read a L.A. Times article that stated Dorner’s truck was found on Forest Service road between the Bear Mountain and Snow Summit ski areas.
Well, the phrase “delusions of grandeur” came to mind when reading his manifesto. He also comes across as a perpetual and professional victim. That, and the over-usage and improper usage of acronyms and military jargon leads me to think that his self-image does not map squarely onto reality. The extensive pop-culture references also suggest that he’s a bit alienated from reality, and his subjective experience of the world around him is not tracking properly with objective reality. I don’t think he’s working from a position of strength right now, if he’s even still alive.
I heard on the news he knows how to fly a plane. This guy is like superman according to the media… able to fire with his left hand, pilot aircraft, drive boats, survive in the mountains, be an expert marksman, owning a .50 cal…
It’s amazing anyone is still alive in SoCal.
He is a Navy flight school dropout, and he washed out early. He was a puker.
I’m betting that he has “support within the community” somewhere.
