Been looking into the Burris XTR and need to know which dual ring mount will give me a lower 1/3 co-witness and acceptable eye relief?
So far I’ve seen the 2 extended models by Larue and the American Defense, the units with the dual quick release levers. Can someone direct me to the correct model to get the desired results?
I have the Matech buis and would like to clear that if possible, but that is less critical than eye relief, and do like to shoot with the nose close to the CH. Do you think I should get the longest of the 2 ‘extended’ mounts?
You can’t co-witness irons through a magnified optic.
I was using the Burris XTR 1-4x and something broke lose in the scope on Saturday at the range so it’s on it’s way back to Burris for repair/replacement.
I’m now using a Trijicon 1-4x TR24 with the green triangle reticle in a 30mm Bobro mount.
Thanks!! My next question would be: Will the 3 mounts that we’ve mentioned get the reticle high enough (when zero’d) to clear the front sight post in a standard AR front sight?

You’ll still see the FSB through the scope especially down at 1x. It won’t obstruct the target It disappears the higher you go up on the power ring of the scope. You have to just learn to ignore it.
It’s like driving an older car. The hood emblem is there all the time but it doesn’t prevent you from seeing what’s in front of you.
FWIW with my 3gun rifle I can see the top end of the FF tube when down at 1x. If I roll my support hand thumb around the top I can see that too. It doesn’t block the target.
With the BDC reticle of the Burris XTR extending down like it does, will the bottom of the reticle be usable? It seems that with a standard front sight base that the lower portion of the reticle would be pretty much useless. Did you find anything like this for longer shots under higher magnification?
You mentioned the TR24, well that was/is on my list as well, but I thought that having a BDC reticle would be nice. If the front sight base turns out to obscure the 800, 900 & 1000 yard markings I can live with that, if it turns out to be more of a problem I may go for the TR24 like yours.
Funny you mentioning ‘hood ornaments’ on older cars…the first one I thought of was my 1964 Ford Falcon Sprint convertible, it had a nice oval front and center on the hood…my 57 Ford had one too…I can relate! I picked up a Vortex Strikefire 1x optic and I see the FSB through it and have no problems seeing past the FSB without any distractions. I guess being older has some advantages.
