1-4 variable scope and A2 fixed front post?

Does the fixed front poist interfer with the view thru the scope using the ADM Recon-X or Larue extended mount?

Nope.
At 1X it doesn’t matter, and at 4X you won’t really see it unless you look for it.

BTW- it’s not really an “A2 Front Post”, as they come on A2s, A4s, M4s and Mk18s. Fixed front sight usually explains what you mean sufficiently unless you are discussing the actual A2 front sight post which is slightly shorter than those supplied with removable rear sights. Not being a dick, just sayin’.

In my experience, mixing optics with standard FSBs has been nearly a non-issue. It simply does not distract me in any way that is worth going to a folding front sight. On 1X you may be able to see it but it is no different than actually using iron sights. Starting around 3X (and higher) it will disappear for the most part.

Lately I have been running a TR21 Accupoint (1.25-4x24) on a DDM4 upper. The TR21 must be places far forward due to its long eye relief and it ends up 3-4" front FSB (carbine length gas system). In this configuration you can’t see the FSB at all, even at 1.25X.

The only time that I have found it to be an issue is when the FSB catches direct sunlight and you are viewing a dark area. This tends to fill the bottom of the field of view with bright white glare. It isn’t blinding but it can be annoying. My solution was to spray the FSB with ultra-matte black Krylon. Grill paint would probably work too.

I sometimes wonder how those who will tell you that you “need” a flip up sight with everything from Aimpoints to fixed 20 power scopes (slight exaggeration  ) get along when they use iron sights. Does the FSB obscure too much of their field of view then?

I had a 1.1-4X on my AR with a LaRue 1.93" high mount.

I had BDC to clear, the 1.93" unit cleared it just fine. I also found I had my head up nice and straight when shooting up close at 1.1 power.

I put a 1.5 to 8X on it now but can’t use the mount as the new one has a 35mm tube.

Hasn’t been an issue for me. Used two different low powered variables optics while overseas and continued using one of them in LE back here.

As Failure mentioned, no concerns or interference.

I’ve got an LMT 16" upper with a Leupold VX-II 1-4x20 in a LaRue 1.5 mount.

It bothers me just a little when I’m intentionally shooting for accuracy.

But I used this AR at an SI class early this year, and never remember seeing the ghosted image of the FSB at all.

If I did have a flip down front sight like a Troy for example, that was just as durable as the fixed one, I would prefer it… but my effectiveness with the rifle is not compromised by the shadow image in the sight picture at all.

Thanks for the replies.

I have a Nikon 1-4 on a 20". On 1x it is quite noticable. 4x it is not. I shot it in a 3-gun Sat. using 1x, I did not notice it at all. Seems that in the heat of things I have learn to just look at the reticle and the target. It wasn’t a prob at all.

Hey Tom.
I believe I am “talking” with you on BrianEnos forum about the Monarch African scope

it would be really nice if you could do a review of it here…
think people could find it useful

ccoker

Yep, that’s me, just can’t stay off these shootin’ sites!!

same here!
