1,000 yd BR match at Thunder Valley Precision

Pretty happy with my 1,000 benchrest competition yesterday. Scored highest score (49) and smallest five shot group (7.215 inches). I even outplaced my instructor in that first match. That’s a real tribute to him as my instructor.

Second match I shot a score of 44 and an 11 inch group. Wind was gusting up and down more during the second match than the first.

Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor, factory trigger, SilencerCo Omega suppressor, Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27x56mm, Atlas bipod, MagPul stock because the factory stock snags too many beard hairs.

Lapua brass, BR4 small primers, H4350, Hornaday 140gr ELD-M, 2800 FPS, 3.1 Standard Deviation.

Next 1,000 yd BR match at Thunder Valley Precision will be June 15th.

That’s pretty awesome! How time consuming is it to figure out your loads?

It’s a never ending challenge. It took a bit of time with the different powders, bullets, primers and brass I tried. Used powders of 41.2 thru 43 to get the right one. I tested Lapua, Norma and Hornaday brass. Used R17 powder too. Tried some Berger bullets but I liked the Horaday bullets best.

I’ve been eager to get out there and haven’t had the chance

Check their schedule for an open range day, I’m usually there acting as an RSO on those days. PM me if you go.

Awesome thank you. I will do that for sure. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks.
