View Full Version : SF 9P weapon light conversion
I've got an older 9P that sees little use anymore. I was wondering which bezel, lamp, and tail would be necessary or recommended to convert it to a weapon light. Thanks.

For an AR-type, you really just need a mount. The 9P is GTG. A Z34 SIB is optimal, but not required. Choose a tail cap according to preference (click, pressure pad, dual, etc). The P90 lamp is quite adequate at ~105 lumens/1hr. The P91 will get you ~200 lumens/20min.
I have one of the original 6P's that must have seen 15-20 thousand rounds of usage on various weapons. All the checkering is gone and it's all scratched & dinged up. Still works like a champ. Like others have said, the Z34 shock isolated bezel is good for peace of mind though.
I've been doing some more research and think that I've come up with some things. Anyone have opinions on Cree LED lamps? From what I've found, I really like the idea of a Cree Q5 LED High Output lamp module with 260 lumens. Where can I find Z34 SIB? I also intend to get a Z49 tail cap.

The "Z34" is made of unobtainium, but if you contact Grant at G&R I'll bet he can fix you up with a Z32 shock isolating bezel!;)
I've been looking around for these for a long time as well, but they seem to be as rare as hen's teeth. I hadn't heard of the Z34 before, thus I beleived to them to the Z32 replacement and therefore available. But....
If you are going to run an LED, just use the standard bezel.
I guess I don't need to worry about it. Thanks Paladin.
How about the new P60L (LED) lamp, and a Z49 tailcap?

Who makes the CREE Q5 for use in the 6P/9P bodies? I have been looking and haven't found anyone yet.

The best Cree drop-in, hands down, is the Malkoff Device:
Malkoff Device P60 (http://www.malkoffdevices.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=18&zenid=60ovpbp95uoq6t88sba5fl5vdg6e1276)
The second best is the Bug Out Gear USA Super Premium Plus Q5:

Both of those can use the regular bezel just fine, rather than the shock isolated version.
I'm not sure if you plan to use this for inside or outside deployment. but I find the high output lamps to be overkill inside. 60-100 lumens or so works well for ME inside as I find the higher outputs effect my vision and increase reticle washout especially if illuminating white walls or if you hit a mirror, both or which are obviously pretty common in most buildings. The high output lamps really "shine" (sorry, couldn't resist :D ) outdoors though with a better throw and more smoke/fog penetration. Just thought I might mention it while you were considering different lamps. It's just what I've noticed for me, and may be different for you!

So even if the light is going to be strictly weapon mounted you wouldn't go with the SI bezel for added protection?
