That is a masterpiece. :)
I knew you would like that the older Colt stock, so I shot this one with you in mind as well.

What brand of Barrel is that? 10.5" Noveske?
Very Nice.
What brand of Barrel is that? 10.5" Noveske?
I wish it were a Noveske! I had an old 16 inch Stainless Oly M4 barrel not being used that I had cut down and bead blasted. The plan is to use a Noveske when I can find a used one at an affordable price.

Here are my 2 AR's in their present states:
The registered/engraved SBR is my 10.3" CMMG/VLTOR/Adams Arms concoction.
It has a 10.3" 1/7 HBAR with an Adams Arms (http://www.adamsarms.net)
Short Stroke Piston Gas System, a POF Front Sight (Larue/Troy sight in the mail), Surefire Comp, MI Rail (my DD Omega 7.0 is on the way), CMMG M16 BCU, H-buffer, Surefire Scout, TD Vert Grip in FDE, Magpul FDE Ladder Rail Covers, DD Sling Loop, Mega Gator Lower w/ DPMS LPK and KNS Anti-Spin, Magpul MIAD in FDE, Magpul PreProd UBR in FDE, VLTOR MUR-1A Upper, LARUE BUIS, Larue Irondot.
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o135/jnortham/IMG_0346.jpg
It is a real tack-driver, dead accurate, and almost no recoil. Plus it is sexy as hell!
Close up of Gas Block:

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o135/jnortham/IMG_0343.jpg
Big sister is a CMMG MedCon Stainless 16" Mid with a VLTOR FS, Troy MRF, Mega Gator Lower, Direct Impingement Gas System, VLTOR MUR-1A Upper, TD Grip in OD, TD Stubby Vert Grip in OD, Magpul OD Ladder Rail Covers, Magpul CTR-M on a BCUSA Buffer Tube, DPMS LPK, VLTOR Backplate/Sling Mount, Matech BUIS, Trijicon TA-01NSN with Killflash on a Larue DOSX4 mount, topped with a Streamlight TLR-1 on a GG&G offset with remote tape. Also sexy.....
Very nice. I have not heard of Adams Arms Retrofit Piston Driven Systems. Can you tell us some more about the system and how it is working for you?
Adams Arms is in Palm Harbor/Dunedin FLA (Gulf Coast near Tampa), they are new, but their design is solid and functions FLAWLESSLY. I put 250 rnds through it at McKeller's Lodge on Ft. Bragg yesterday, and all I can say is DAMN! I can officially state that direct impingement is DEAD! After 250 rounds all I had to do is boresnake the barrel and wipe the comp down and bang you have a clean rifle. Running cleaner is only one of the benefits, talk about a reduction in recoil, no more "gas-in-the-eye" from gas bleed-off. All the gas is bled-off at the gasblock. Allows for a nice tight sight picture. The piston/Surefire Comp combo is the sh*t, I was double-tapping in solid 1" groups at 75" yds with my Larue IronDot. This little gun is the ultimate CQB gun now. I never have to worry about the dreaded failure to cycle common in SBR's.
The system from Adam's Arms is well worth the $499.00, it requires no permanent modification to the rifle and works out of the box with a whole slew of rail systems from MI to ARMS. Lifetime warranty, and Jason is always there to help. Jim, his PR guys is also fantastic. I have seen the LWRC, Bushmaster and HK-416 gas system, I can honestly say that Adams Arms is head and shoulders above them, especially LWRC, having to use their ugly, clumsy rail system would make me yack. Give them a call or go to www.adamsarms.net.
BTW my Gas Block is SN# GB-0001A, the very 1st production system, it also has my name laser engraved on the gas block. My block is also the master off the CNC machine, so technically my Gas block is worth $80,000+ :)
The weirdest part of this is that I grew up a mile from the main offices of Adams Arms and my little sister went to school at the same time as the owner. I live in Central NC, what is the odds that i would end up with a gas system from a company located in a tiny town like Palm Harbor FLA? Too ironic.

Cameron-
That is a nice blaster. How do you like that IOR Scope?
It is a great scope. The optics are clear and let in a lot of light, comparable to a Leupold SPR 1.5-5
The CQB reticle is great with a fast horseshoe for CQB on 1.1power and the precise dot for 4 power. The BDC is the reason that I got it though, set up like an ACOG the range finding is fast and the elevation hold overs are perfect. A friend and I have used them out to 700 yards and they work well. The BDC also works with 7.62 NATO 147gr ball too, so I have one for my DSA FAL too.
Great customer service from the guys at IOR I recently had a small issue with another scope and they were extremely prompt at simply replacing the scope with a brand new unit, even though I had kryloned the whole scope. Truly great guys at IOR.

There is a wee bit of wobble between them, but otherwise function great...the weak part in my setup is the screw-on VFG...it can come loose if too much pressure applied, and when that happened it scratched up my thumb after it got caught in the rails...

I'm a big guy, with a big head, and with that itty bitty stock, it's actually extremely comfortable "way up there". Looks silly, sure, but it's oh so comfy. I'm not a "nose to the op-rod" kinda guy, especially not when I'm just plinking and using it for HD. When I bring it up, the sight just lands right where it needs to be.
Oh, and please.."cut" me up. I'd like some opinions on my setup.

Hi-Viz friction fit over the standard bead, you can "pop" it off and use the standard brass bead. It came from the factory that way...

This is a very interesting rifle. I still don't understand how it is not a Piston, but rather a DI system? That's what I read in your other thread, but I don't really know how it works? Thanks for posting!

I guess you'll have to ask yourself why you think it is a piston system in the first place.
You won't be able to find a piston anywhere...
Gas goes down the gas tube into the bolt key just like a normal AR but the bolt key's tube where the gas tube fits in is extra long. The result is excess gas/debris doesnt go into the reciever but stays localized to the bolt carrier group because the gas tube and the bolt key tube never seperate.
The return spring surrounds the extra long bolt key tube.
That't it. Real simple but excellent.
I hope this description helps.
Otherwise you'll just have to believe me and take it on faith until you get to see one just like you take it on faith that man went to the moon.

No worries, we all take your word on it, and no one is doubting you in any way. That was our way of asking for your explanation of the system. Such a different design only warrants a full explanation, which we now have. Thank you sir.

I used one of the MI free float rails. All I had to do was take the delta ring off and place the rail on there. There wasnt a single problem with the gas block on the gun; the rails slide over top of it without a moment's interference. :D

Thanks fellas.
I really like the two-tone look now and I just painted the SOPMOD stock last night. My next few builds will have that look. I've got a 16" Middy project that I'm working on. I'm heavily leaning towards getting a Daniel Defense 12.0 Lite rail for it. Haven't decided on the new Aimpoint M4 or T1 yet. I wanted the T1 for a while, but I might just wait for the 2 MOA since I plan on using the magnifier with it. It's all dependent on how much my tax return will be. :D

That optic is an M145 machine gun optic, right? It has a ballistic stadia retical, and the stadia lines are set for the trajectory of 7.62x51. Is there there a variation that has 5.56 stadia lines? I've never seen one.

The Elcan is commonly used on Canadian flat top versions of the A2 I think. I believe, do to weight, US mil only puts them on 240s and such. We may have a retical specific to that role.
The Elcans; C79, Spectre DR, and M145, (as seen configuration) are not that much heavier than the Acog. However along with the minimal weight addition comes far superior optics. However that is another discussion.
Yes, the M145 has a 5.56 reticule, and that is what is in this tube. That's what we are here for, is it not, to learn new stuff??
And "Hello" Capt Obvious, yes this carbine is heavy. I didn't put the picture up trying to pretend this is my duty rifle or anything of that nature. Rather than putting up another one similar to the other 285 pages of pictures, I didn't think there were that many of this manufacturer or with these accessories. I tried to have a little diversity, spice of life, kind of thing.
Easy, Tiger. I thought the pic was for humor. No hard feelings! :)
Although, at our local club we do have some night shoots/campouts, with some BBQ and wobbly pops after the guns go away. So I have played with this monster on the range. Took it from the Pelican, onto the shooting blanket and back. Looked funky on a team photo.
I just have to figure out how to mount the bayonet. Maybe some duct tape.:p
P.S. I noticed the pronounciation of car bean.:D

Keep in mind that M80 and M855 have extremely close trajectories out to about 500 meters.

How did you make the sling mount? This is awesome work. If that could be mass produced, I'd grab one in a minute.

Thanks, I have been a Machinist for over 20 years.
I machined out the Colt mount and machined the eyelet insert, pressed the two together and drilled the holes and pressed in two roll pins. Glass beaded the complete unit and parkerized it.
I have started another one for my 9MM carbine, but I didn't use a Colt mount. It was another manufacture and isn't the same quality casting as the Colt mount. I haven't decided of I am going to use it or not and may pick up another Colt mount and modify it. The Colt mount cost $40.00 @ Brownells and the other one was a $20 gun show pick up. They look alike, but when the two are side by side, they are NOT the same..
Let's simplify things a little.

After adjusting the Aimpoint, I took the mount off the Noveske and installed it on my Colt 6920 - wouldn't you know it the sight is almost dead on on the 6920! I'll confirm at the range this weekend, if I can hold minute of bad guy on both primary and backup then that'll be alright with me. All that's left is to mount my X300...

jhova,
Where did you get the UBR stock? Also, how do you like the the KAC 2 stage trigger, and have you compared it to an Armalite NM 2 stage, or a Geisselle, etc?
Thanks.

I got the UBR from GTS/Denny's; it seems great thus far. Haven't shot with it yet (just got it last night), but it seems solid. It replaced a SOPMOD.
As for the KAC 2-stage--I really like it... The only other 2-stage I have owned was a LMT. The LMT was nice, but this is way nicer. It is really a pleasure to shoot. It has helped me get much more consistant groups. One caveat, I have heard they only last about 3k rounds, I have no idea if that is true (I only have 200 rds on it).

Hey Jeff,
A few questions for you my man!
1. How do you like that Noveske/SWS rail? I'm thinking of using the AR10 version on my AR10 build.
2. Do the UBR stocks use their own proprietary receiver extensions/buffer tubes?
3. Whose QD Sling Swivels are you using on that Novekse gun? They do not look exactly like my VLTOR, nor do they look like DD swivels (which look exactly like VLTOR swivels). Whose are they?
Yeah, you've always got pictures of your guns on the ground man! Of course, if I had the guns you've got, I'd have a few beaters that I wouldn't mind getting dirty either!
:)

A few pics of a 16" build getting ready for some fun at the range (just ignore the Sig). It consists of an SDI gov't profile barrel, middie gas, BCM bcg, Spike's lower, RRA two stage trigger, and of course all the other goodies that are visible in the pics. This thing is extremely well balanced with the UBR stock. And so far, not a single glitch.
