NPRC 2017 AAR! Random observations.

At the pre-event staff dinner, I was very fortunate to have MOH Recipient Dakota Meyer happen to sit at the same table as me. Talk about a regular guy-- it many ways-- but in a 6-or-7-way discussion about tactics, policies, and life in general, it emerged that there is a lot of extraordinary in there. His keynote presentation was fascinating, inspiring, and so very relevant to all of us-- even if we aren't Marines being overrun by a superior number of committed fighters. It's his story to tell so I won't attempt to convey it-- but what he did when one of them tried to take him alive as he was kneeling over a wounded comrade-- simply amazing with a touch of funny-- except for the would-be captor. The other speakers and debriefs were no less riveting, and important. I will write more later or maybe somebody else can fill in a few details.

The Live Fire Training Event (formerly known as a competition :-) ) was once again won by an Illinois officer, a good friend of mine, a great shooter (obviously) and a spirited, seasoned trainer: Rob Donaldson. Rob is the owner of the Springfield Operator that is the subject of a high-round count thread in the 1911 section-- so if you have followed that, it is obvious that if nothing else, he shoots a lot. Last year's winner came in second this year-- Deputy Kimberly Heath, also from the same region in Illinois. This is no coincidence in my mind as they both have come under the influence of Jeff Chudwin, a lifelong student of, and instructor in, shooting and gunfighting..... and, no surprise, a past winner of the NPRC competition.

As the event armorer I inspect the rifles pre-shoot. They run the gamut but once again this year I saw a lot of "honesty" in the way they were set-up-- some are right up to the edge in terms of the rules but without any shenanigans, and, in my mind, the rules truly reflect and enforce what is reasonable for patrol. A great many are truly rack-grade. All are accommodated in terms of sighting systems with different divisions for irons, red dots, and magnified. Magnified always wins, no surprise. There were 134 shooters. I will give the breakdown in terms if sighting and scores when I can unless somebody beats me to it.

This event, compared to some others, is not huge in size but it is all red meat, thick and juicy. Attendees and vendors are king, it's all about them!

More as I can.

The cover of this years event booklet listing vendors / sponsors. Standouts for me: NRA is 100% behind NPRC and in fact this year facilitated the keynote speaker's appearance, Dakota Meyer. I learned that WMD is offering way more than cutting-edge surface treatments-- they are now offering complete guns. IWI was there this year for the first time and had a table full of interesting...... Mission 22's mission is to do whatever it takes to lower the suicide rate among veterans. Various raffles and auctions during NPRC resulted in several thousand dollars going their way. FNH, Daniel Defence, Trijicon and Troy were conspicuous sponsors as well as S&W, all with lots of product on the prize tables. Not to leave anyone out-- let's just say the prize tables were running over.

I think this is a good indicator of what NPRC represents and the kind of people that attend. At NPRC 2017, $6300 was raised for Mission 22.

Just looking at the list of sponsors, two things jump out at me. No BCM, which I would think that this would be a great market for them? No ammo companies.

Any videos of the LFTE?

Any good PDF reports that support the use and benefits of suppressors? Been trying to get our Admin to allow them for the last few years. Always looking for good material to support the argument. Oddly it seems our biggest advocate has been OSHA.

As to suppressor info, the event does not study or generate data on this although many competitors are using them and many vendors are offering them.

2018 NPRC.

More to follow but Deputy Kim Heath, now Heath-Chudwin, is the overall winner for the second time-- "shoot like a girl-- if you can".

Jared Baugh was the first in the non-magnified optics category. I failed to record whop was first with iron sights but it will soon be on the Center Mass website and facebook page.

Second place overall was Mark Stout..... M4C familiar nickdrak was third overall.

NPRC is all about training, sharing valuable information, networking...... vendors and sponsors get treated like royalty, and of course guest speakers who always bring pure gold. But wait, there's more.

Every year a worthy charity is picked and throughout the event raffles take place. This year's very worthy recipient was Colors of Heroes, who at the end of the awards ceremony was handed $5725 to help with their important work:
https://www.colorsofheroes.org/

Sponsors contributed God-know-how-much in merch to both the prize table and for the raffles.... Vortex was there this year for the first time, and they kicked-in generously-- not to mention the Vortex guys being very cool dudes who, for now I will just say, know the deal about optics and how they get used and how they need to be. Other vendors and sponsors who deserve a big 'thank you" for being there include--
Daniel Defense, Geiselle; Trijicon . Evens group; Springfield Armory; ADM; Savvy Sniper; LWRC; Smith & Wesson; WMD Guns; Glock; Milo Range; Leapers; FN America; and several others who I will li9st when I have more time.

This event is the best of the few of its type and rates getting a look by police and military whose job involves the Patrol Rifle..... think about it for June 2019.

Vid from the 2018 NPRC is up. Congrats to the winners but the whole event is one big 360-degree piece of win for attendees.
