Just over 1/2 inch at 100 yards- 5,6,7th shots...so much for break in...
GAP built this for me- it was worth the 5K
*These pics are from when it was new...it's been dragged many times since then.

Yes the Manners stock is GTG. Tom Manners is top notch. Fast, clean and takes care of cops.
Mike Miller makes a good sling. The Quick Cuff works.

It was a sniper/counter sniper/advanced sniper combined package.
He was good with the choate while in the prone but quickly realized it was a piece of shit when shooting offhand/over cover etc...He has good glass and a McMillan stock on it now i believe.

It took forever to get a decent zero on my rig because it was real windy at ASR but this is the best group I had
it isnt that great but the barrel isnt broken in and the accupod while great is really squishy on the Houge stock, its kinda like shooting on Jello
next outing Ill sandbag it to get a proper gauge of how it shoots
http://www.oniva.com/upload/204/6-28-08.JPG
Stu,How is the 260 in comparison to the 308 in regards to LR shooting,I have HEARD it is just as good or better and easier to reload.
I own both, .308 & .260
Both in McMillan A3's. Another .223 is being built as I type this in another A3 (yes I have a McMA3 fetish)
For comps that are not caliber specific I will always shoot the .260
Whatever my dope for wind is on the .308 I have in the past used just less than half value for my .260.
My come-ups are less also.
As far as the claim that the .260 kicks less then a .308.......I personally can't tell the differance between either of mine.
Not sure if you can read what my load is so I'll post it:
Remington RP brass
Primer pocket cleaned
Primer hole cleaned
Inside & outside neck chamfered
CCI BR 2 primers
41.7 gr. of H4350
Sierra 142 BTHP
Loaded to 2.820
This load is a work up that I have done that works extremely well in rifle.
Caution: work up to this load and check for pressures in your stick.
I'm not sure that reloading a .260 is any easier than ________ but it's pretty straight foreward.
FWIW,
Stu

Man I've been working on my wife for a year to let me spend some of the money I've been making while working down range. I am willing to seperate with $3685.00 for the bare rifle in a heartbeat but she isn't quite so eager. A quick to Scott over at S/C and I would be all set, then wait for delivery.
Edit: After some chat / IM time with the wife last night I think she has warmed to the idea. She even stepped out and asked me what it would take to order one and how long of a wait it would be. I really think she might be coming around and seeing things my way!

great pics !! whats the yardage of that range ?
Thanks. The "legal" maximum yardage using the paper targets at the pit is 600 yds.
There are berms at 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 yds from the pit, but also there are steel targets placed in the mountain at 800, 1000 and 1130 yds from the 600 yds berm. Also we can bring our own metals and locate them in the mountain as needed...

I stripped off the Krylon from my scope and stock (it was turning yellowish) and sprayed to stock, bipod, mags and scope with Duracoat 'Tactical Dark Earth', I just got some of the flex additive so that I can spray the bipod feet and scope lenses covers. I also replaced my scope mount and rings with physically lower Badger rings and a Badger 20MOA base (still need to spray these too). The nomex suppressor cover is from TAB Gear from www.riflesonly.com

beautiful stick ! what kind of bipod is that ? the feet are very aggressive looking .
Thanks man! It has been my project for the past year. As for the bipod it is a Harris HBRM-S with a pod-lock. I replaced the feet with pod claws from Phoenix Tactical because my Harris' feet kept sinking in the sand at my range. They came in a dark earth color but I refinished them myself in black. They are great! Just gotta be careful cuz they will dig into anything... including cases... bedsheets... yourself :) lol I just keep a small canvas bag on them until I am ready to deploy and problem solved! Well thanks for the kind words, let me know if you have any more questions!

SSGN_Doc,
Nice painting job.
How did you do?
Disassembled the rifle.
Laid down a base coat of OD then after it dried I tore irregular shaped pieces of blue painters tape and applied them to the stock where I wanted the green to stay. I overlapped some strips to make larger blobs.
Then painted everything brown. Waited for that to dry and applied more irregular shapes of blue tape where I wanted brown and overlapped some of the existing tape where I wanted brown and green to stay.
Then sprayed on the tan. Waited for that to dry. Then removed all the tape. The contrast of colors seemed a bit sharp, so I did a light mist of all three colors to help tone them down a bit. If an area seemed too dark it got a touch more tan. If it seemed too light it got more of the brown or green.
After that dried I put on some Polyurethane Satin Clear to provide a bit more protection.
After a day of drying in the hot garage, I reassembled the rifle.

What is the rationale for having a separate location for the bolt? Is it to keep the bolt handle from "bottoming out" against the foam during transit?
What is the rationale for having a separate location for the bolt? Is it to keep the bolt handle from "bottoming out" against the foam during transit?
I wouldn't be worried about it in a Pelican/Storm case but
GAP takes the bolts out and wraps them in bubble wrap prior to shipping (...at least in my experience).

That was mine, yes. Better safe than sorry and there was room for it. Remmy bolt handles have been known to break off on ocassion (they're soldered on) and this one has not been mod'ed with torx screws/bolts.

thanks. I just checked the invoice....this stock is about 3 years old now and it says 33% for all three colors...OD, tan, and black. I would say it looks more like 20% tan, 20% black, and 60% OD

Here's a couple of shots of me wringing my rifle out at Blackwater's LE/Military Sniper course earlier this year.
Forgive the lousy pictures guys. My M40a1 Spec. built clone showed up earlier this week. This was a faithful reproduction using the same type receiver that is within the same serial number range (6 digit). A USMC return stock, Mike Rock M40 barrel and a TBA mount. Every detail is correct as are all the markings and machining required. Just waiting on my MST-100 scope. I don't have the MRT sling but a nice Les TAM USMC marked sling is in place right now. Totally obsolete by today's standards but I plan on making this my course and competition rig once the scope arrives. The rifle was built by Casey Brouwer at Tactical Ordnance in Ontario, Casey is a Swat guy and an amazing machinist. I didn't have the heart to remove the young Marine's art work from the stock so it stays.

My wife would call this "putting lipstick on a pig".
SPS with Premier Reticles Scope from Liberty Optics. Seekins Rings and Base. Harris Bipod, Tactical Intervention slip-cuff and a BALS-K cheek-pad.
At 34mm the scope is a beast but had everything I wanted and so I bought a scope with the understanding I'd never need to buy another scope again for a precision rifle.
After I get a couple of thousand rounds down-range I'll update the stock and barrel as well as FH or threaded barrel. Already I can tell the cheek weld needs to be a little higher and the LOP needs to be a little shorter and I prefer a pistol grip.

Here is my first painted tackdriver.
It is a Savage Model 12BVSS. I have a Leupold Vari-XIII 4.5-14x50 with a one piece Warne rail base, and Leupold rings. The paint job was done by Joefriday here on the hide, and kudos to him on the paint job. I will be on vacation in two weeks, and I will be sighting it in then. I cant wait to try her out.

Since he didn't read two signs, his road ended in the dumpster--BOLT ACTIONS ONLY
There sure are some nice rifles on here. Here is my humble submission. Remington 721 30-06. The action on this rifle belonged to my dad and is probably over 50 years old. I rebuilt it into a nice bench rest rifle. Not much time to shoot it yet though.

What barrel is that Merle??
Thanks!
It's an ER Shaw barrel. I can't remember exactly what profile but it's about 1.25 inch diamter with no taper. Rifle is right around 13 pounds empty. It shoots pretty good, but I'm still new at shooting long range with a scope. I'm sure it will shoot MOA with a little more practice. I've only put 50 rounds through it since I built it.

I've had to wipe a lot of drool off my keyboard thanks to this thread! You guys have some nice sticks.
Here's my son's bolt-gun. This gun is the reason my bolt-gun doesn't have an AICS on it or better optics (although, it does seem worth it now that he's gotten in to the long-range stuff a little bit). I guess his brother's AR is the reason that neither of my ARs have ACOGs on them, but oh well - they're both into shooting and I'm super happy to have them setup with good rigs at such a young age.
Started out as this:
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i91/rawatkins/Remington%20700%20II/DSCN0861.jpg
Its got a Hart barrel chopped to 22" and cut/threaded for an AAC MITER connector for the SCAR-H SD suppressor (so he could use my can - which since his name is on the trust is quickly becoming "our can"). Its on a B&C stock with a Timney trigger set at 2Lbs, a Badger 20MOA base, Burris XTR rings, a Millet TRS-1, and I think a Callahan bolt knob and .250 recoil lug (and a vickers sling & Eagle stock pack).
It needs paint and we'll probably do that together later on. Here's the pics (notice that the can is not on my rifle - it was before I left the room to get the camera and suddenly it ended up on his :D ):
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i91/rawatkins/Remington%20700%20II/DSCN9918.jpg
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i91/rawatkins/Remington%20700%20II/DSCN9919.jpg
Here's the look of joy it brought him:
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i91/rawatkins/Remington%20700%20II/DSCN9920.jpg
Here's my rifle (it was the one in the pics above with the green fluted barrel):
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i91/rawatkins/Remington%20700/DSCN02291.jpg
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i91/rawatkins/Remington%20700/DSCN8939.jpg
Its basically like my son's only its got a Broughton barrel machined by GAP for a surgeon (got a good deal on it with the can/connector when putting this project together). The only thing about it that I don't like is that the barrel was indexed for a much larger recoil lug than the .250 one I put on there and so the GAP logo is barely visible under the stock.
Its sitting in an HS Precision (which honestly I can't tell where the extra $200 over the B&C's price went - it wasn't quality or fit/finish), and has a slightly less cool Timney trigger in it than my son's, but has a Falcon Menace on top.
Spartan MK1 .308 with US Optics SN-3 3.2-17X44 in low Badger rings.

Yup, I'd say that's the luckiest kiddo in history! He'll be knockin' steel at 1000 yards by the time he's 16.

After first zeroing the USO SN-3, 10 rounds of Hornady #8077 (308 WIN 178 gr BTHP MATCH SUPERFORMANCE) into a 3.05" group at 421 meters (bench, Caldwell "Rock" front, rear Triad bag, 72 degrees, clear, light wind).
I'm certainly not going to claim to be an "expert" shooter but I was pretty dang pleased with this result with factory ammo.

Upload them to a photo hosting site like Photobucket, then post an in-line link in the thread here.

Edwin, thank you. You rifle is truely awesome. How do you like your scope.

Many thanks.
I love the USO SN-3 3.2-17X44 scope. It has a high "shootability" factor.
Sharpness, color, contrast, definition, low light, they are all there.
I get asked why I didn't get the 58mm objective, but use with the AN/PVS-22 was envisioned from the start.
I also have a USO SN-3 1.8-10X37 with the exact same options, Mil-GAP reticle, turrets, illumination, ajdustable objective (I'm a lefty). It too is brilliant.
One day maybe I'll have a matching USO 3.8-22X58. At least that's the plan.
There are some BEAUTIFUL rifles on this thread!!! Also some very nice firearm photography! Thx - I'll try and post an image of my own rifle. Very plain compared to these.

You will need an account somewhere like Photobucket.com (free BTW). Once you upload them you will see where you copy and paste the link.
Very simple. Have any issue drop me a line.

Edwin, Very AWESOME! By the way, what's the ammo carrier on the rear portion of the stock? I'm interested in a similar build and always looking for the little goodies to make it better. ;)

Titleist, nice rifle, tell us about it.
Just a thought but I wonder why you and everybody else built the rifle's were shooting.
The method, the knowledge behind the build Cal, Barrel length, Trigger, scope.
And the intended use of the rifle.

Dirk, great thread over on WeaponEvolution.com explaining AR15 layout. Many of the same members on both forums.
http://www.weaponevolution.com/forum/showthread.php?817-Explain-your-AR15-layout...
Nevermind. Just realized this was in the precision area. Actually now I think about it. We should start a Precision Layout Thread similar to the AR15 layout thread on WE.com.
Dirk, thanks.
To your question, it's an 18" barrel, .308, with the muzzle brake at the end. Trigger is the factory trigger professionally tuned down to 2.5lbs. Scope is a Leupold Mk4 4-14x in Badger Ordinance rings.
Stock is a McMillan A4 with water transfer printed digital desert, adjustable comb, and Harris 6-9 swivel bipod with Pod-Loc.
The intended use is at local long range steel matches, usually from 800-1200yds. I'm eventually going to get it set up for night shooting with a McMillan over the barrel rail, PEQ-15, clip on NOD, and AAC Cyclone.

Hey no problem, training is good. Training in Oregon even better. And thanks, the rifle really came out nice.
It's funny, even my friends who don't like guns want to shoot that gun.
