Noob needs Castle nut info

Brand new here and learning a lot.

If someone stakes a Castle nut, doesn't that make it impossible to remove if you want to swap stocks?

It makes sense to stake the gas key.

Please school me.

Not impossible, only slightly more difficult. The end plates are cheap to replace if needed.

I think it is more of a pain to remove ones that have been loctited than properly staked. Not that loctite was mentioned.

It's not difficult to remove after staking. Staking is just to keep it from backing off on it's own and it doesn't take much to prevent that.

I've got a post ban Bushmaster with a fixed "fake" telestock. I'm going to swap it out for an Ace Skeleton or this A2 I just bought. (I've started a build project too...so I don't know which rifle will get which stock)

Just not sure how to undo it once it's staked.

As you guys already know, my Bushmaster stock was not staked.

No it does not. You simply remove the stake and unscrew the castle nut.

What makes a castle nut nearly impossible to remove is when a manufacturer uses red loctite on them.

+1 ,red locktite is a bitch to get off ,you have to heat it with a small torch. also those cheap $1.99 wrenchs are a waste ,get the heavyduty combo wrench . stakeing a castel nut is the way to go ,get a quality castel nut .the cheapy ones are a drag and end up looking like sh*t.

unstaking is as easy as the original staking.

take a punch and shove that bit of metal right back out of the slot. simple.

if you have ever tried to remove a loctite secured castle nut, you will understand what a bad idea it is. you are more likely to ruin the tube before the nut budges.

staking is fast, easy, secure and reversible....not to mention the "correct" way.

Loc-tite is the lazy way of doing and ends up causing more issues. I can honestly say that I have never had an issue breaking loose a castle nut that has been staked, it just takes a little more man juice.
