    Started me thinking about my Ruger 10/22 with an 18" one inch stainless
    steel barrel hanging off it ..and free floated...

    Better to bed the barrel and free float the action maybe...
    It is legal to hunt, kill, and eat porcupines, armadillos and badgers in Texas.

    That's actually how a lot of guys build 10/22 for competition... I used to have a Savage that had about six inches of the barrel clamped in a "bedding block" and the action hung out the back - that gun was a freaking tack driver, I mean 100 yard groups that almost always ended in a bullshit flag and accusations of drilling one in the target and throwing the rest over the top.
    I put the "Amateur" in Amateur Radio...

    would a bolt carrier group in place have an effect on the amount of flex? I suspect that it would "help" due to filling a void, however it would likely be dependant on how "well" it would fit that void....this is a guess only.
