Yes, the 357 Sig will go through some of the older soft armor out there, but most of it now is rated for 357 Sig. That said, so would some 9mm 124gr loadings too. I wanted a 357 Sig real bad about 5 years ago and the Glock 32 is still my EDC for one reason and one reason only... the amount of time it took me to master that bitch made me a better shooter of every other auto pistol. It beats [the crap out of] the glock like no other, and when the parts finally start to wear out I will switch it to 40 and probably never look back.

Massad Ayoob is less than credible. He has even went after Fackler at various times. He's a writer, not a scientist.

Whatever you shoot best is going to be most effective, it's a handgun.

Based on this http://www.winchester.com/SiteCollec...law_bullit.swf the 357 Sig bonded works about as well as anything in their lineup. I'm not really a huge fan, but it seems to be a bit better against barriers than the 9's.
As somebody who is very experienced in the use of .40Super, I would tell your friend to just stop. Its a fun round if you love the external numbers(velocity, bullet weight, etc), but it is basically pointless. It is fun to put the 10mm junkies in their place, but thats about it.
None of the bullets in .40Super were designed for .40Super. They are all either .40S&W or 10mm bullets shoved at insane velocity. It is pretty cool to see the massive fireball that comes with some of the 135gr loadings.
I may have a few boxes of the Triton loaded stuff laying around somewhere. I think I kept a box for each round. Mine was an old forged frame Para Ordnance P14.45 with a Bar-Sto .40Super barrel, a Wolff 28# recoil spring, and those red shock buffs.
