their barrels are a big weak point- 1/9 twist, and the biggest problems i've seen are tight chambers. this is the kind of thing the end user can't really fix himself, and it can be hard to diagnose- reaming it is essentially the only way to tell- so it's especially lame.

As you can see in the chart and from doing searches, the armalite is around a mid grade rifle. It is not a true mil-spec weapon like a colt, bcm, etc... This doesn't necessary mean it is a poor buy but you should research and be aware of its limitations. The key to the purchase is the condition and price. If you can find a lightly used one for around $500 to $600 it could be a very good buy especially if it is to be used as a range carbine. On the other hand if it was more expensive lets say $700-$750, I would just spend a couple of hundred more dollars and get a BCM or DD. Or closer to that price I would at a S&W MP15 which is still a better rifle than the armalite.

The gas blocks on Armalite rifles are not pinned....they use a clamping gas block.

I would not buy an Armalite. There are much better choices on the market and nothing about them that I am aware of is milspec.
