3D in CotT was an afterthought. It was supposed to be released a month or so earlier but with the current 3D trend they decided to redo the Post and add 3D in. This is why it didn't look good. Avatar or Alice were much better examples of modern 3D tech and really show off what it can do. They were shot with 3D in mind and it makes all the difference in the world.
