NIB Colt 6933 - Safety Won't Move To Fire...

Guys. Come on. Blaming this on the ambi safety design instead of a lemon part or assembly that can happen with any company is about as fudd boomer as it gets. Part of the upgrade from M4 to M4A1 that DA did included the ambi safety and that's been going on for over a decade.

This one was actually pretty easy to figure out in the end. The retaining hex head bold was not completely seated, there was about a dimes width of back and forth play which prevented the safety from rotating normally. I checked every other ambi safety AR I own and none of them are like this. On this one I could push the safety out to the left and insert a dime behind it.

The other problem is the hex head bolt was red loctited so I didn't realize I couldn't just back it off and my attempts to remove it meant just a little torque snapped the head off. The threaded bolt under the head is pretty skinny. I think it's a bit of a weak link but easily solved by just installing a standard safety lever which when done eliminated the problem completely. So it wasn't a bad detent, it wasn't a bad detent spring it was a ambi safety that wasn't installed correctly from the factory and it wasn't a part that is easily removed.



The HK ambi safety might feel like a rubik's cube some days but I think it's superior to this one. Not sure how this made it out the door at Colt, QC definitely should have caught it. But again, running just fine now. And had it been correctly installed in the first place, probably wouldn't have been a problem.
