The only advantage a hollow point offers is the slightly larger chance that it could graze a vital where the solid projectile would have missed but the hollow point has to get there.
I guess I agree with most of what you said. Didn’t one of the turds in the FBI Miami gunfight get shot in the ticket early in the fight? I’m pretty sure he would have died even if he took the shot while lying on an operating table yet he fought on for quite a while. Also, I believe a big advantage of HP is it’s less likely to exit the person you shot and bounce around. I also don’t think that the energy transfer on the target between FMJ passing through and HP coming to a stop is make believe.

Fine. This post is for you only so as to make you feel better. Energy dump and expansion are real things and only those matter when incapacitating someone. A .45 is 100 times larger then a 9mm. A hollow point does explosive damage and a fmj just makes a tiny hole. People never died in the past with target ammo. It wasn't until the hollow point was invented that han handguns actually became lethal.

    Happy?
You were so close, but forgot to mention that .40 is the perfect mix of 9mm penetration and .45 stopping power that instantaneously vaporizes all living things. (Sarcasm for the dull light bulbs).

Anyway... where are Gary Roberts and Buford Boone when you need them? Someone turn on the “ballistic expert” bat symbol.

    Saw this somewhere:

Shot placement is King, penetration is Queen. Everything else are angels dancing on the head of a pin.

I have always carried a 9 and always will. So does my wife. I prefer it because it’s cheap and the recoil is light. There is a ton of ammo for 9mm too. I carry either a glock 19X, 26 or 17 Vickers. Wife carries a 43 with TT +2 extensions. My favorite is the 19X. To me it’s the best pistol glock has ever made. I can carry 56 rounds very comfortably. I know some people hate on the 9 but I think they are the type that carries a .45 because they think it makes them tough somehow.

    I sometimes carry a Beretta Cheetah .32.

I guess you think carrying a 9mm makes you some kind of tough guy...

Really though these are pistols. My favorite pistols currently are my S&W 2.0 M&P .45 full-size, S&W M&P 2.0 .45 Sheild, and a Beretta M81FS .32 acp. All have been reliable and accurate and do get carried.

Lately I've been eschewing mid-sized pistols and calibers. I even sold my low-quality 9mm ammo to friends.

The point is use whatever you like.

I think the ending of that sentence needs to be “and know its limitations”.

I simply cannot get on board with carrying a round that pretty much has no chance of reliable expansion and penetration. As previously stated, you kind of have to pick one or the other with calibers smaller than 9mm.

    It is what it is.

I think the caliber wars are just plain dumb. Carry what you like and shoots the best and not what others think. I know that I keep scrolling past anyone who champions one sole caliber over all the rest. I carry either a 10, 9, .380, or a .45 and don't care what others think about it because life is just too short to worry about petty semantics. Know your gun, train with it, and select a vetted projectile for it and you'll be G to G.

The Winchester Silvertip stopped short inches from his heart after going through an arm, expanding, and then going into the chest. A ball round or if they had more modern hollow points of today would have made it to his heart.
