    Clearly that stuff they're selling is just mild 1/4" steel. We run several 1/4" Armorgard gongs that are shot with magnum rifle rounds all the time. The belted mags will start to dent the armor if you get in close enough... Nothing out of an AR or a .308 short of AP will harm them.

    You can harden steel to the point that it will perform quite well against some of the threats mentioned. But then it becomes so brittle it will crack like ceramic if mishandled, so why not go with ceramic in the first place and avoid the spall issues inherent to steel.
