When the Marine Corps looked at the M27 as an across the board replacement for A4 and M4s for just the divisional units in the Marine Corps the 1 billion dollar price tag made the senior leaders decide to just look at PIPing the A4s with free floating handguards and collapsible stocks and the M4s with free floating handguards.
I would guess that over time most companies would follow colts design. Buyers like compatability, and sellers like to sell products.
On another note, what would happen if something like the ACR wins?
Last I heard the Colt piston was doing quite well; much to many peoples surprise.
Thats good to hear.
If we get a new rifle will it get a new M designation?
since we are on the topic of the IC i have a question. If the Army chooses to just PiP the M4A1 what do you think the response will be?
I have a feeling the media will pick up on it and say the Army set up the tests or that they made the wrong decision
