    HK 91Pistol--Convert to rifle

What is required to LEGALLY transform a HK91 PDW into a regular HK91 with collapsable stock or fixed stock (assuming I can get barrel length > 16").

I don't have a lot of background with the HK91, but there is one locally on the cheap, and if its feasible, it would be nice to swap back to a rifle.

Is this a real HK91 that has been shortened?

I would avoid rebuilding it or buying this. Who knows what parts you are going to get or how shitting the PDW build was.

    Just get a factory HK91.

    Why do that?

To be a PDW it is already a registered SBR.

Unless of course you are actually looking at a PTR pistol. And if you are just get a PTR GI rifle for about the same price.

What's your opinion of the PTR GI? Any glaring flaws?

Its a pistol-style. No stock. Non NFA-my apologies, i am just repeating the marketing.
Looking at this as a mini project. The pistol is a bit underpriced.

Assuming it is a PTR and not a 91 converted to a pistol they go for around $999 or so during normal times. Given that you can buy a PTR rifle for about the same amount of money makes converting the pistol to a 16" barrel rifle not terribly practical or cost effective.

I don't haven enough experience with them to say. But since the pistol in question is almost certainly also a PTR there will be little difference between the two.

I have been told the GI barrel PTRs are an improvement over earlier rifles.

It would cost more to buy a PTR pistol and make it into a rifle, than to just buy a PTR rifle.

Did HK import 91's in a pistol config? If so that would be news to me.

Never. And now that you mention it I don't think you can legally go from rifle to pistol, the receiver has to be designated as a pistol from the beginning.
