Yes. The rifle felt very light and was very nice overall. The rail system was great in that you could simply add sections in the areas that you need an accessory at various locations.

Everyone has opinions. Some people have critisized the SCAR buttstock so this gives you another option. I thought it felt very good, but it may not be for everyone.

Their rail system is very nice as well and I am pretty sure that it will find a wide audience.

I guess I knew this was coming. But there's nothing uglier than M4'ing every rifle on the market (IMHO). I cringe when I see M4 accessories stuck on AKs. I'll probably have the same gag reflex when I see a SCAR wearing a M4 buttstock.

I agree. It's a matter of personal preference. I'm sure it feels pretty good and I'm sure they will sell a few of them. But you have to admit, trying to make every rifle just like the AR is kind of odd.

I just want FN to release the DMR version and not charge $4k for it... A man can dream.

with same ammo, we ran both standard ball and m118 it was only 100 yards and we saw enough of a POI shift to not hit a 10" plate at 100 yards, this has been seen on opposite coasts and by diferent parties in testing. FN was present at one and had no explanations. I have got one of my own scar17's in trade and a couple industry pro's will be T&E'ing and shooting it in the coming months. so stand by for more opinions. I am not completely shooting down the system as i think it has great potential but it isn't there yet.

That is an incredible amount of POI shift...

Well, the AR system took 40 years to get us where we are today. Maybe in 40 more years, the SCAR system will be fine-tuned to the extent of its potential. Of course then somebody will start telling us how antiquated it is and convince the powers-that-be to modernize with a direct gas impingement system.

I've had my 17 for a month and haven't been able to score a single spare mag... unless I was willing to pay 80 bucks on gunbroker.
Just got off the phone with The Gun Source in Green Bay, WI. They have FN SCAR 17 FDE mags at $35.99 per, the best price I've seen so far. Phone is 800-518-3808; item number is 504091. Link:

I have shot my SCAR 17 at 100m with de linked M80 ball that has been stored in a garage for about 10 years and this gun groups around 2" + or -. I have fired M118 and have never seen a POI change that caught my attention at 100. I I have fired Winchester 150gr soft point ammo and still no major POI change at 100. I did not know this might be an issue with a 17, however it my rifle does not seem to present this issue. Heck I harvested a nice doe with mine on the Winchester and never touched the adjustment on my ACOG.

This seems to be more the norm. In fact, several unrelated reviews point out a strange LACK of zero shift across different types of ammunition.

I'm curious about this now. As soon as I get time I'll shoot some 168's, 175's, and a couple of different kinds of "ball" I have lying around and report back. It won't be statistically significant all by itself, since it's only one rifle, but it'll be interesting to see what it does anyway.

I'm going to take mine out today and pop its cherry. I'll try the same thing.
