While not expensive by these standards, I'll have to vote for a Seiko divers watch.

They are rugged and affordable. My personal preference is for the Automatics vs. the Quartz as I'm old school and don't like to depend on battery operated anything. I have one that ran for 22 years before it quit the last time I was in Iraq ('05-'06). I was fortunate enough to find a new one in a PX in country so I didnt' suffer any long term withdrawls.

While my old one is repairable, I'm giving it a well deserved rest and wearing it's replacement on my second tour.

    bringin it back

So did anyone get anything cool for Xmas? This thread started me down a path that has led to some nice acquisitions in the last few months.

    Steinhart Ocean 1 39mm

    Steinhart Ocean 1 42mm

    Seiko Orange Monster (SKX781)

They join a (kinda) nice Sandoz and a few plain jane Timexes that aren't worth showing off. But I'm very happy with these mid level autos, particularly the Steinharts. I'd say I'm at the point with these where I was with 1911's a couple of years ago: don't see much of a difference between a $600 Springfield and a $1600 Wilson. Now if only I can figure out what the watch equivalent to my RRA 1911 is...
    Principles matter.

How did I miss this thread. I like watches much more than guns. OK, I don't really but it's close.

Certainly true for new ones. There are lot of very nice vintage ones out there for well under a grand, though. You should be able to pick up a near perfect early Seamaster for 500-600. They are great watches.

    Thumbs up

I have worn just about as many watches and still going! Im working on a Omega and after that a Rolex Sub will be my(hopefully) last "grail" watch! As of lately I have been going with my Marathon SAR-D or TSAR! Wife got me a Citizen Eco Drive watch and we love them! Solar and battery powered and accurate as hell! Just cant go wrong with them!

    Grunt Out!
