(X300) Battery lid retaining pin required?

Hey guys, quick question about the battery lid retaining pin. Is it 100% necessary? I just received my duty Safariland 6360 holster that fits the light. When reholstering, the pin/clip hits against the plastic inside. Naturally I took it off and it's smooth going in and out.

It's one of those things designed for the kind of guys who can be given two bowling balls and an anvil in a locked room and will somehow find a way to break at least two of the items.

It does interfere with a lot of holsters so skip it if your holster doesn't work with it. I've also seen some guys trim the pin to the point where it fits in the holster. Personally I don't fool with it.

That kinda scares me because I could break an anvil with a rubber mallet I'm much happier without it though.
