The barrel life of an M4 is shorter than the cleaning interval of the gas tube.
It's a non-issue.
There isn't really any harm in it as long as you don't lose anything down the tube, so if you like doing it, crack on, but to imply that we are all having problems that don't actually manifest in physical reality is a misdiagnosis.

what exactly are you "scraping" out? the maybe .005" of carbon that the weapon limits to the interior of the gas tube is basically welded to it. not only is it not hurting anything, it's also not coming out.
i suppose blanks, as mentioned, can probably dirty up a gas tube a bit more, but live rounds are going to fix that right up, i'm sure. who the hell fires blanks, though? i haven't fired a blank since i got out.
it's not a bong-stem, holms- no goodies in there.
