    To the OP:

What is your plan to remediate the rust? I'm filing this one away for mental reference, should the need occur later.

Would you suggest some very fine grit wet sandpaper, with some CLP or something similiar to remove the rust, then apply a coating?

Would some Brownell's Alumahyde be a good bet? I would not want to apply something so thick it would make for an issue, and I'd be concerned about heat as well.

Thanks, and best of luck with your labors.

FWIW, Sabre Defence does park under the FSB and they use taper pins. I just picked up a lil' 10.5" 5.55mm C/L'ed barrel for my Colt 6933 so I can verify that much at least. Very accurate for it's intended purpose plus they give a healthy MIL/LE discount.

My plan is to use some fine sand paper or steel wool and remove what I can. Then I will coat the underneath with Militec or Weaponshield. Unfortunately I also have a budget and getting things like Aluma-hyde or simila sent over here is very cost prohibitive.

What about using stove black. It is a high temp paint that is cheap, used to paint the exterior of steel wood burning stoves.

The problem is that it is HAZMAT and has to be sent FEDEX or DHL which is very expensive. So in addition to the cost of the high temp paint there is the shipping factor as well.

If there are any Army units around you then you may be able to get a can of solid film lubricant.
