My point is, I have this idea of just how good this Country was when I was a kid, just how much potential we had.
I have no idea what happened, but I feel like we lost a lot of good things getting where we are now.
Don't wait for an argument from me. I'm just glad I got to grow up in one of the golden eras of the 20th century. If I was a teen in the last 20 years I'm sure I'd be medicated, assigned to a therapist, would have an actual psychological profile and would be completely resentful of all of it.
I was able to see this country at a time when we were largely ahead of the game and that is when people with nothing better to do start looking for what they can object to. The country, and the world, has never been perfect. We never eliminated racism, never achieved a merit based reward society or any of those things. But it seemed like we were a hell of a lot closer to it then than we are now.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
