    LMT E-carrier and buffer weight

Have a carbine length gas system, with an Enhanced carrier but a Cryptic Coatings bolt, and an H2 buffer. The M855 I have cycles *mostly*, but the MK318 is hit or miss. Does the Enhanced carrier mean an H2 buffer isn't needed? That is the first thought I had; maybe drop to an H buffer or even a standard carbine one?

The three gas bleed holes, slightly larger compression chamber vent, and straighter cam pin track keep the bolt locked just a fraction longer before turning for primary extraction. An H buffer should be about right for a carbine or mid-length unless you're hanging a suppressor on the end.

What barrel are you using? I’m quite certain that what Sinister is saying is true, but my experimenting with the LMT E-carriers showed the change to be somewhat small, and usually not impacting reliability negatively. Any chance that bolt fits sloppily in the carrier, or that a gas key screw has quit?

I don't recall what specific barrel I have on this one, but it is pencil-profile, chrome-lined, and 1:7 twist (it's not a Colt, maybe TNTE?). I'm not seeing anything wonky with the bolt and carrier. I'll have to play with buffer weights.

I have e-carriers in three carbines and a middy (two Criterions, one DD, and one Triarc), I've never noticed their usage to cause enough of a difference to change buffers. I think all those guns are running A5H2s or plain H2 and occasionally suppressed, both 5.56 and .223. I don't think that its the enhanced part of the carrier that's giving you issues, especially with 855 having some issues. Is this a new build that you're just now testing or has any of it been proven before introducing new components?

I've never heard actual reviews on Cryptic Coatings and have never heard of the barrel manufacturer you mentioned period, I'd look at one or both of those first.

I have tested an LMT enhanced carrier with an adjustable gas block. What I ultimately found was the e carrier actually needed lees gas to cycle. I think it’s because the cam path is easier?

Good Grief! If you did a simple BCG swap and the problems went away, I'd get rid of that fukking gimmick BCG.

I have to think there's something else wrong here.
