My first problem was that the Chinese had a SETI program back in the 1960s and that they were more clever than us in making contact.

Not going to lie, I had an issue with that too. That's part of the "woke" I was referring to. You were warned. The chi-coms own the entertainment industry now. It's just going to get worse. Give it another five years and literally everything coming out will be completely unwatchable. Right now, it's barely watchable. I get tired of reruns though.

The bigger issue I had was with the overall cast. The alpha characters were 90%+ people of color and/or female. Especially the chinese. As usual, the white characters are all beta males and/or bad guys. It's the new world, ESPECIALLY with productions done in Europe. It will be that bad here in another five or ten years. Every show will look like our current TV commercials. Good thing I don't watch TV anymore. The world needs to be saved by DEI.

So far, the only recent involvement of The USA in the show is a failed rocket launch... OR did the launch actually fail? I have a feeling it worked as predicted, but they faked the failure to fool the aliens. Oh well, we will see. If season two kickoff like season one ended I won't make it through two more episodes.

Once EVERYTHING becomes unwatchable I'll just go back to reading. Won't be long now.

There was a subtext to it that seemed to imply the reason everyone starved during the cultural revolution was because China was spending money on it's space program (including a SETI project), which was a common criticism of the US space program. But in the case of China, it's completely fictitious and gives the brutality of of the cultural revolution a pass.

I will say this, after almost a century of GENUINE propaganda, the Chinese really are masters of the art and if you don't pay close attention it can get passed you. If you don't know any actual history, it can get passed you. And if you have been force fed this kind of nonsense all your life, it will get passed you.

^^^ I agree with all of the above. I grew up in and went into the military under the Cold War. For the life of me, ever since I was a small child I never could figure out why everything was "CCCP CCCP CCCP", yet China always got a free pass for supporting the same thing. Especially after what they did to us in Korea. It didn't help that they had their hands all over 'Nam too.

Just like we should've marched straight through to Moscow in World War II, MacArthur hit the nail on the head perfectly in the Korean war. As soon as china directly attacked US troops, we should've turned Peking into a glass parking lot as well as set their military industrial back 100 years. That ship has sailed.

Instead, 20-30 years from now it will look like this. Not 2030 like in the video, but they were close.

Just watched episode 1. Strange stuff, make you think to keep up. If it's not believable or far fetched, so is the Star Wars and Star Trek universe, but that didn't stop us from enjoying them.

Riots are like sports, it's better to watch it on TV at home.

My objection isn't that it isn't brilliant sci fi. Few things are Interstellar (2014), my problem is that it's sorta lazy and presents itself as high grade sci fi. In the 1960s, Star Trek was cutting edge. In 1977 Star Wars did two things, it set the film in a distant past and it showed us a "used" galaxy vs a "everything is chrome and shiny in the future (even though technically the past) and both of those ideas were ground breaking.

3 Body Problem isn't terrible, it's just not as genius as the writers think. So far I figured out every single plot point and was only wrong once. I wondered if a "3 body system" was going to be a weapon they used against earth, although if you can create three small suns around our planet you can just send one into the planet. But a lot of the other plot points are the same 6th grade level of sci fi ideas.

The entire gamer subplot is annoying and idiotic and indicative of the audience the show was designed for. Then there is the "aliens as Lord" subplot which is even more annoying. Someone read Clarke “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic” and has just ran with it. Also if the aliens can project hologram assassins NOW, why do they have to wait 400 years to kill us? If they can alter our reality in ways that are indistinguishable from reality, why can't they just make the planet disappear and we all die choking in space?

So many, many, many plot holes that injecting actual concepts from physics (such as the "three body problem") really is just cloaking weak sci fi with a simplistic understanding of advanced science. I think it is mostly hampered by the fact that Chinese sci fi writers such as Cixin Liu simply aren't that creative. They were born and raised in an oppressive statist government that didn't allow for individualism very much and as a result independent thought and ideas themselves are alien concepts.

Russians LITERALLY made superior sci fi films in the 1920s.

Not that bad but, sadly this show is still better than 90% of the new stuff aired on the "si-fy" channel. That channel was just ONE of the many reasons we cut the cable. Crap selection, and enough woke commercials to turn a two hour air time flick into a three hour airing.

    NOW WHAT???

Is there anything left worth watching? I tried to stomach "Fallout" but couldn't make it through the first five minutes of the second episode. Made 3BP look like Interstellar.

LOL. I'm rewatching "The Pacific" for maybe the 14th time. NF hasn't come out with anything amazing in awhile, 50% seems to be anime nonsense and 40% of Bollywood. They add a decent film from time to time but as far as series, the last one I watched and liked was The Crown.
